At one point or another when I'm choppin' my samples i hit a brick wall and can't chop it down any further. I've found that by messin' around with some $hit I can eventually get it where I want, but honestly I was so HIGH the last time I don't remember what it was that I did.
Anybody have a solution to this problem? besides rehab? :?

Dogz, I haven't gotten to the slicin' and zonin' yet, I'm still in my infancy, with the 4000. I'm talkin' samplin', let's say a kick and a snare. I chop out the kick and when I go back to chop out the snare, I'll turn the jog wheel for it to only go so far into the sample then stop! Agrivates the $hit outta me!

Check the newbie bible for chopping and if you have you notes to chop use the region page set to 2 regions adjust the start and end points and either slice the regions or use extract page set to region. Word of advice pay the 30 bucks and download the MPC tutors Beat Making PDF Ebook it is worth is and it will take you step by step on the process. You can thank me later and feel much more confident in the future. Good Luck.

seight...what you're experiencing is very frustrating on this machine...which is why many MPC users use Recycle and Aksys - I hate what you're exactly talking about...it should not be that hard to chop samples on the 4k ...but it is -

Although I agree with Haze that the MPC Tutor book is valuable for learning about these things...it stilll does'nt answer the question as to why after you ..for example...chop a loop in half, and then try to further edit the chopped sample... that you can't move past a certain point in your edit.
It pisses me off to no end having to **** with that..

I'm going to go get a copy of recycle today = installed on a new laptop and do my shit in there.

amen it's over

The 4K is brilliant for a lot of things...but I'm going for Recycle to do my chops, loops, stretching....

check
to see if the region page is off or messing with the trim page this happens on the MPC 4k alot. In the newbies bible Reveal explains it. It happened to everyone just about. You have to go back to region set it to one region and make sure the whole sample is highlight and you should be able to chop up the sample as much as you like. I have no problems now. P.S. think of chops as in bars for phrases and notes for kicks and snares. Peace :D

Isn't that brick wall you're hitting not simply the end of the currently selected region? The one that had the kick?

Yeah Haze..that is the deal..

It's a region thing that you have to constantly be aware of when you start chopping things -

You hit this wall after a few edits on the same sample and it's frustrating -

As I said...I did just get back from the store with a copy of recycle..loaded it and Aksys onto my laptop...and I can see right now without hardly running the programs that this is the way I'm going to deal with samples -

Akai has a lot right on the MPC , but it sems to need peripherals like this (recycle) to really make it shine -
