UNDERSTANDING MIDI

fellas, i have read numerous posts and threads as well as books on MIDI but i dont completely understand it. I want to know why when i record a sequence from a midi keyboard into my mpc then bump it to a disc, flash drive, etc the sound doesnt come with it from the keyboard??? if someone doesnt mind explaining this in lamest terms, please do i will certainly appreciate it. I've heard that i may need a mixer to get both audio and midi? can anyone confirm this? thanks in advance. i know some of you see posts like this and cringe but i just need help understanding thats all. if you feel that you want to use sarcasm and be a butt head i would rather you refrain from posting to my thread, thanks

ok... im finding that i would need a mixer, but i have also heard that i could use an interface to record my sequence into something like pro tools... let me be specific... i have pro tools 8 le with an mbox mini interface if i connect my mpc 4k while my midi keyboard is also connected, i should be able to record my sequence with audio to pro tools or garageband correct????

midi is only data information, i.e. the notes played on the keyboard is recorded as numerical data in the mpc, the mpc then sends that data back to the keyboard when play is presses triggering the proper notes in the keyboard to play, what you wanna do is run the keyboards audio outs to the mboxs ins and record the audio in protools while being triggered by the mpc. the 4k has multiple midi outs so you could send one to the mbox and sync Protools to the mpc so that everything stays in time

I was just about to say that.
Midi is not Audio, the proof that its not audio one has the ability to switch between instruments even if the data you recorded was meant for drums. You can easily switch from drums to piano, organs, violins, etc. etc.

Word, be patient. The 4k is a beast, the epitome of a "professional" advanced sampler. She rewards those who are patient enough to get over her learning curve.
