MPC 4000 DVD Drive Compatibility - The FINAL word!?

I don't have any problem with the DVD-ROM drive reading the DVD-RW but if I'm in the record screen I can't seem to play the tracks.

It's strange as I can audition and hear songs in the load screen. I have the S/PDIF board installed but not the digital cable for the optical drive. Perhaps this is why I can't sample from audio on a DVD?

Prime example. You can't make me feel small. I know how to make music. I know how to use MPC's (not that there's any shame in not). The reason I don't post more often is because I read older threads to find out information, or I read the manual which isn't always lucid. Comments like yours serve no purpose, there's not even any humour there.

I'll look into the issues I brought up and report back if I find any answers others may find useful.

the software was not written to handle dvd.

dvd compatibility is almost like a hidden feature.
and i have only achieved success, in reading data from a dvd. i.e. loading samples and programs and sequences

I think you're probably right, but I wouldn't mind trying the digital cable if I can get my hands on one just to know. It can't hurt to have that connection even if it doesn't work.

I don't think that would be the reason because you should still be able to record using the analogue connection.

I had this problem when I had an el cheapo SATA to IDE adapter on my SSD hard drive - the play controls for the CD ROM were disabled, so it seems like maybe there's a conflict on the IDE bus. Or the jumper settings could be wrong, see page 255 of the manual for installing a 5.25 inch drive. Although you already had a CD ROM drive working in there before so this should be right.

If your jumper setting is right, the HD is set as Master and the DVD is set as Slave and it still wont work, then it may mean that the DVD RW drive you have is not 100% compatible with the MPC.
