yo i need some help. i've got a motif and mpc 4000. i've got no monitors (blew them) and no mixer. i have the mpc and the mo' hooked up with midi out' s and midi in' s. i have 1/4 inch' s runnin from the mpc main out to the a/d in's on the mo' and i'm tryin to run the mpc as the master but, when i plug the headphones into the mpc i can't hear the mo' and when they're hooked up to the motif i can't hear the mpc. i had all this workin before i sent the mpc back (and my monitors were workin) but now i just can't figure it out again. i' ve tried everyting. somebody please help. thanks.

p.s. i've read both manuals like 3 times but, i'm still blank.

There is nothing wrong. Midi is just performance data, its not an audio signal. When you play the mpc using the keys on the motif, the sound will only come out of the MPC because the motif is only 'telling' the MPC which notes to play. Thats midi in a nutshell. Sorry to hear about your monitors. I've blown all 4 speakers in my Event 20/20's and have been able to replace them all for less than $180 without replacing the boxes.

Sorry, I missed the part about you running the 1/4" from the MPC to the Motif....I was on the phone when I read your post. You should hear the the MPC coming through the Motif, but you wont hear the Motif in the MPC's headphone jack. I have never set it up like that, but make sure you have the Motif set up for analog/ line in on the utility page.
