Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I've recently found out that the 4000 reads S3000XL ZIP disks.

Dug out my 3000 kits today & hooked up a USB ZIP 100 to the front port on the 4k

It worked, I got that 3000 sample input flava straight in my MPC.

I wanna see if the Ren can do this? Get yourself a 3000 rack (200US) and a zip if you need some vintage in your life. Don' be afraid to clip the signal on the way in.....

Yep, sure does. I've only tried a few disks so far and some of it wasn't 100% but that may be due to the dodgy copy I tried.

I aquired some S-series discs a while back and tried to get them to work with no success. They might have been in a strange format. I would get the A-Z folders and in those folders were a (.td0) file that I have never heard of.

I did get an S3000 series disc that worked great, but was VERY hit-and-miss.

Were they definitely S1000/1100 or higher format?

The earlier S900/950 format is not supported by the 4K.

Yeah the S1100/3000 disk of Mellotron samples that I tried was pretty useless - pretty much had to re-do all the spans for the samples. However I had some probs on the S1100 as well.
In my case it might have been an issue with the disk trying to be dual format 1100 and 3000. There are differences between the 1100 and 3000 even though they use the same file types.
