PLEASE HELP badly distorted sound problem

please let me know how it goes kev im in urgent need to get this going i have shows coming up....

ok cool!
and i just discovered something else very weird.
if i get it playing( which it does sometimes before it cuts out) and as soon as it starts distorting i blow behind the hard drive sorta where the battery is but underneath the opening on the adda out board it will play perfect!
but just for a couple minutes and it cuts out again. but always comes back perfect if i blow right in that spot. i can repeat it over and over
what does this mean? a loose cable underneath? someone anyone PLEASE help!
any ideas? let me know

That info is pretty important to have on here for these ageing machines.

well i was going to post it in the thread if anyone was interested......but i just got called a douche bag for no apparent reason? ive been nothing but polite on here. thats pretty childish

anayways it was a problem with the main board under the pcb output board.
i took it out completely and noticed that it had some slight dust buildup around the connections. i took those out and it was almost like glue pulling them apart. they were almost fused together i guess over time and it was almost impossible to get them off. but after prying on them for about ten minutes they did. i took them out cleaned the in and out of the connections and viola my disortion problem was fixed. there was a slight goo buildup that i removed as well. and thanks for any input from you guys except the douche bag remark. i appreciate respect as we all do. i would be glad to give further details if anyone needs me to. im just glad ive got both my 4000s going now. what a relief!

I've got some distortion in my samples.. more often when the filter is being swept.

I'll have to check connectors too.. hope that's the problem in my S2000

Sounds like it was something to do with the D/A chip. If you've every listened to the digital audio prior to a D/A converter it sounds like really a distorted whinning noisy version of the audio. Did a lot of signal tracing in the past with a lead and a speaker to find where the audio gets lost in the circuit. The goo was probably somehow passing the digital audio to the analog outs.

I've also ran into problems where something expecting A/C was getting DC instead and that also caused distortion in the output.... just thoughts

My 4000 is still working fine! I literally took it completely apart to find the problem. And the goo looked almost like old spilled soda.....but I know I've never spilled anything on it. Very strange and it took me several hours and attempts to get it going correctly. These machines are tough. If anyone has questions id be glad to help!

Did some testing with a working and non-working MPC. I removed PC IO ADDA blk from busted one. Put the one in from working MPC and it worked! After some more testing with memory i decided to start both machines without any memory. Good started fine, showed 16MB. The one with the distorted sound coming from outputs would not boot up at all. The stock 16MB is intergrated into the CPU board. I came to the conclusion CPU board must be bad. i also notice under the memory slot the circuit board looked burnt. I cleaned as much as i good. Before i wasn't able to load sample, unit would just freeze but now i am able to. Outputs are still distorted.
