Overloading the internal pre-amp?

Does the MPC have a way to meter the output of the multi? Sometimes when I make a change to my drum program, let's say, I can kinda tell that I'm clipping the pre-amp or the converters internally. So I know when to back off the volume of the drum program. But is there a way to see how loud the beat itself actually is? Not the level coming out of the MPC that's based on how loud the volume knob or headphone volume is, but the combined volume of all the programs? Usually you can't push analog gear past +6, and digital gear is 0 before you get distortion, but I'm not sure where the distortion is taking place: at the pre-amp level or at the AD/DA converters.

Anybody know?

Maybe the record page when you set it to sample from the main outs... I dont think thats effected by the main vol knob....

So far I haven't found a VU meter that reflects the levels of the internal voices and the internal master bus.

What you could try is lower the Master Level in the GLOBAL page and see if that changes things. My *guess* is that lowering the Master Level increases the headroom, just like my Emu sampler does it.
