Newborn MPC4K owner asking for advice :)

Hi all,

Long time lurker first time poster. I've been lurking reading as much as I can about the MPCs available, and just purchased my first being a 4k, and I'm super stoked. I used to use the likes of Reason and Fruity for pattern based sequencing. however I want to go hardware so I can actually put my diploma to use, and leave my kid some neat equipment he can experiment with when he's of age if he wants

My challenge is, and the question i'm asking is that the 4K I purchased has one dead pad, I asked the seller to run through the diagnostics routine provided in the service manual and he stated every button registers except the one pad. I'm hoping it'll be an easy fix either clean the contacts up and give the unit a good spring clean, or just by new contacts and pads. What I was hoping to learn is if you wise sages and vets could give me some advice on how to get up and running ASAP and what I should do to test the functionality of the unit. the seller has given me the standard 14 days to return it if it doesn't work properly. and any advice is appreciated.
I've tried search but its hard condensing such a request to one or two words :s

Welcome and congrats on your 4k. Unfortunately I dont own a 4000 but I'd have to say take a look at the sticky notes in the root of the 4000 forum. there will likely be some much needed info there and maybe even the resolution to your issue.

TBH, I think it would be best to just open the damn thing and give it a good clean FIRST. It may just be something as simple as a loose or dirty pad sensor. Its just good practice to once-over second hand gear.

Even if the sensor IS bad, I think it would be best to just replace it. The 4k is a gem, it may need a little buffing up, but its still a gem.

Sage advice: Grab a copy of the reference manual and service manual or you will end up like homeboy in my avi...

You might as well buy some new sensors from mpc stuff. There are youtube tutorials on how to change out the sensors.

Your sensor is going bad. Depending on the man hours dedicated to your unit, your pad sensors will need to be replaced every 5-6 yrs give or take.

$75 - $100 for both part and labor.

10 min fix - if that.
