no sound from pads

Can't see if there's MIDI input activity on the main screen when you hit the pads. Maybe your drumpads are routed to Sampler A or MIDI OUT. Check out MIDI menu - Routing tab.
Another thing to try is setting Program Monitor mode to Program, not Multi, and see if it makes any difference.
