It's just a 1 bar sequence that is duplicated with all the same settings and all tracks originally unmuted. Then, in this new 2 bar sequence, when muting a track, it's automatically unmuted each time a new bar begins, no matter if muted while in bar 1 or bar 2.

That's a strange limitation in a performance oriented hardware sampling sequencer, for a function that's primarily used for immediate live improvising.
Anyway, I found there is a copy/paste way of expanding the length of a sequence without the need for song mode.. I assume it must have been what Lampdog had in mind, making me yell at him because I'm an idiot that completely misunderstood what he was saying. Guess I have to apologize for that..
