pads will not play?

hello, i just got my mpc4000. I have updated to OS 1.6. I have loaded some samples...i can play them in sample edit(by hitting F6), and i can assign them to pads, however when i hit the pad the sample is assigned to, nothing plays. If i have my controller keyboard hooked up to midi in 1, i can play the keys and the samples will play.

What setting is wrong or is the damn thing broken!

i have also gone to midi and made sure the destination is set to sequencer. WTF is going on? Its acting as if a "local control" setting is turned off, however i cannot find it.

please someone help as im so frustrated right now!

i just fixed it. I opened it up, and there was a cable not plugged in all the way. THANK GOD. This was the first day i had it, at first i thought i was just being an idoit and missed a setting.

Im just happy i dont have to return the damn thing....the cable must have gotten loose in shipping, cause it plopped right in!
