Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I know this has been discussed in another thread - Meaningful units for PROGRAM mode parameters - but as a newbie I just want someone clued up with the default parameter settings in new programs to help me with the following.

It is about the f*cked up default parameters that are in programs. I have been following the thread and have been trying to make to make sense of all the information. I realize that once you load samples into a new program there will be some settings already there in the program, which will affect the sound of the sample. I also understand that I must remove any settings which will affect the sound of the sample. I want to do this and create a program template (with all these default settings removed) which I will then use to load samples into.

So I don't screw things up could anyone please let me know what you have to turn off/alter/reset in each of the following sections of a program to make all program modulation inactive (so the sample sounds exactly as it did when I sampled it) :

EDIT 1

Pitch

Filter

Amp

EDIT 2

LFO1

LFO2

Aux Env

Any help would be most appreciated.

Check the users guide very closely on pages 86, 88, and 90 each set how you should have it when you start but for some reason they aren`t. And if you received your sample disk with your 4k. Load up the programs and check how the sets were made too. Also the newbie bible has some answers too. :D

some things that i set on every newly created program 1:

first off i go to program mode ... and in either edit 1,2 or zone page i select ALL so that the changes affect all keygroups or notes of the drumprogram ...

then i open up program modulation (for this there is not the need to select ALL)... anyways ... i make all modulations inactive ... either set them to 0 or even better scroll with jogwheel all the way to left so that they r all gone ... for my workin the way prog mod is setup doesn't make sense anyways ... and this way you don't have to botter how filt env, lfo1 and 2, aux env ... and so on are set in the first place ... all that stuff is only active if they are set in the mod matrix ...

then the most important one ... adsr ... set a to 0 ... and r to 0 too, ... and whilst your at it set d to 0 too (as long as s is at 100 d doesn't have any effect ... but still to startout i prefer to set it to 0) and leave s at 100 ...

then there is that level setting at -6.0 db on top of nearly every page ... i set it to 0 too - do as you like...

... and then there are some other things ... dunno i d say those are more related to taste ... like curve - i usually set it to log ... and there are some others i always set but thats now really maybe just my taste - so i better stop ... question: never had an other mpc - do older mpc's default to curve = log?

... hope that i haven't forgot anything ... well - at least the above are the most important ones ... hth ... enjoy your 4k ... besides some unnecessary stupidities it is beatheaven ...

thanks for lookin' out man.

the mpc2k only has attack and decay curves. nothing else.

where is this curve setting you are talking about found on the mpc4k? i will have a look to see if there is a matching setting on the mpc2k.

man, the truth be told i am loving the mpc4k. you can go as deep as you like with it. i prefer to keep things simple but it's nice to know you can take it to levels.

the filters are sexy. i was q-linking them last night. very impressed. sorry mpc2k...but i've found a new love.

np your welcome ... i been refering to the velocity curve field - its on top of almost every window in prog mode (in the middle) ...

check the last page of abbendum 1.40 ... there it says ...

For the improvement of interchangeability with the programs created by the MPC3000/MPC2000, the 'Curve' field is now added at the Program Block.

i never had any other mpc so i wonder how it has been on the older models?
