Booting up the MPC with the SHIFT + WINDOW buttons held down results in the following on screen message:

Flash ROM failure: ROM code is invalid!
Please reload system via USB OSLoader.
Contact your AKAI professional dealer or visit the www.akaipro.co.jp website for more information.

I was trying to startup the MPC in a diagnostic mode or some other wicked hidden operation mode and was trying some keycombinations. For one moment there I thought I had trashed my flash rom but it was only a testscreen I guess because rebooting the unit went okay...
I thought I'd mention it here as an addon to the hidden screens thread.
