Defragmenting the internal HD

Is there another way to defragment my HD in the MPC without having to swop it to a win98 machine?
I just re arranged every map with sample ceedees via Aksys cause it was getting a mess. But now I need to defragment the HD urgent

Geez.....good thing I gotta Windows 98 comp laying in that corner over there.....never thought I'd have a use for THAT thing again.....

yes but it writes some stuff to the HD, win98 is the same as the mpc4000. (or somezthing like that, I dunno how it works). but I know I needed a win98 machine before when i just got the mpc4k to format the hd. I dont risk it to do it in XP, defragmenting in xp might work but it isnt good for the hd. XP uses another architecture (?) or something

The MPC4000 hard drive needs to be formatted as Microsoft's "FAT32" format,
which WinXP can handle perfectly well.
And defragmenting a drive is not the same as 'formatting' it anyways!

i know the difference between formatting and defragmenting and thats bout it hehe

but than tell me why is it that i cant format a hd to fat32 with xp so that the mpc reads it? cause ive tried it and only 98 was suitable

It looks like the HD in the MPC4k doesnt need to be defragmented. I put it into my XP machine and XP tells me that its a healthy drive and it doesnt need to be fragmented..
Does the MPC work in a different way then Windows? I mean without those blocks
Cause I did some heavy rearranging of folders.. like 10 giga or something so normally my drive would need to be defragmented

seem ur talking file system diffs fat32 and ntfs (98 win32) (2000 both)(xp-ntfs)

98 fat32

I thought WinXP can format as FAT32,
but if it's doing NTFS, then no, that won't work on the MPC4000.

If there's more than one "flavour" of FAT32, then that's Microsoft's stupid fault!
