Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I've had my mpc for a couple of years, have the newsest OS,

one day I turned it on and in the load window, it said "NO DRIVE" - I tried hitting 'update' but no dice. it had worked fine about 20 minutes before, but now I can't save or load a thing!

has anyone had this problem, or is it an issue with my HD, and CD? that seems unlikely, that they would both break at the same moment. Maybe its like a SCSI problem or something... I dont know what to do!

please HELP!!!!!!

I hate to tell you this, but your HD likely died. it's in the Ide chain before the cd drive so when the HD goes, the cd drive stops working also. hope you had a backup.

... not to take the cheapest one imo ... 20 $ up or down are less expensive as to have anotherone fukked up soon ...

do a search on the 4k forum ... there v been quite some coments on the matter ... my 4k came with a maxtor (not everyone in here recomends em though) ... but i had np in 2 years ... so dunno - but i wouldnt take any other as either western digital, maxtor or teac ....

also check this - akai germany tested some (not many though)
