how the hell do i use the effects on the mpc4k? any help would be cool... peace... and happy holidays...
It isn't easy to learn only by reading or experimenting. The manuals document everything well like a handbook but they are not a tutorial. This is why I recommend new MPC owners buy the Sample Kings videos. The tutorials SHOW you how things are done and get you up to speed quickly.
The trouble you are having is involves signal level and signal routing. I will give you an example to try. By now I hope you understand the relationships between Multi, Program, Part, and Sample. If not, you may encounter other problems.
Let's suppose you have loaded a basic multi with one program assigned to Part 1. It contains samples in Pad Bank A whose sound characteristics we would like to change. To make things simple, we will set an effect to alter all the samples in a program. We could just as easily go into Program mode and set each sample selectively if we wanted only a few samples to change. Or we might assign different effects to different samples.
With your multi loaded and ready, go into Multi mode. Press the Mix F2 key while in this mode. You will see your one program in the table. Change the FX value from -40.0 dB to 00.0 dB. It is being attenuated until you modify it. Next, change the Send value from Off to A. You are going to send all the samples from this program to Effects Bus A.
Half your work is done. Now go into Effect mode. Rotate the dial and Select an effect from the list of Types. Not every type can be heard well. It depends on your sample. You might want to try a basic reverb for a start. With that done, now hit a pad. You should be able to hear the effect.
There are many possibilities for effects. You can assign combinations of effects or route them in various ways. The level can be set for a subtle effect or a very discernable, dramatic effect. Experiment and read your manuals.
