Considering buying an MPC4000

I was planning to get a 4000 too but right now I can wait. I don't use even half the features of my 2000xl, i just sequence and play one shots. I don't even swing. I guess teddy riley and primo did it so good for me when I was growing up that now I can't bring myself to use it.

Love my machine, 1.45 works great for me. I may hate on Akai's OS development but the machine is a tank, and its the best in the market.

what kind of CD R writers the MPC can handle ?
is there any special brand or something like that ?
'cos cheap Lite On CD R writers can be found around 50€, so even if it is for being used a few times, it might still be interesting

The Yahoo! group has a spreadsheet file with a short listing of usable drives. It is over a year old. The drive model and manufacturer are included in the file. You might be able to cross reference the drive specs with other more popular drives. To the best of my knowledge AKAI has never published any definitive specs for compatible drives.

Read the Version 1.20 Addendum of the User Guide for a description of feature enhancements offered by the drive. The Version 1.40 Addendum contains a few other operations that might interest you.

There are some individuals who think that AKAI was/is going to offer audio mastering for the CD-R/RW drives. This misinformation began circulating when Roland released the MV-8000 with audio mastering.

The AKAI MPC4000 brochure referred to “master archiving” as a feature. This is much different from “mastering” an audio file. AKAI delivered the MEMORY TO CD master archiving in OS Version 1.40.

still torn....i just dont know yet which to get....like i mentioned i am looking for a dedicated drum unit with flexability and versatility and ease of use.

It means being able to save the entire memory of the MPC4000 to the internal CD-R/RW. This feature was added in Version 1.40 of the OS. Backing up your work to permanent storage on a CD is a safeguard in the event the internal hard drive fails. It is helpful as an all-in-one-place solution that avoids having to use ak.Sys and a computer for backup. Some musicians and producers prefer saving their work to CD since they can work with less interruption than having to move over to a computer and launch an application.

Are you serious man. The RS7000 is garbage. A friend of mine had one, and now its out on the streets directing traffic.

What was so crappy about it?

There are a lot of proffesional producers releasing their shit with the RS7000 so there cant be to much wrong with that.

pro projects have been released with fruity loops....i don't think that was his point ...of course it's useable..I guess he just thinks it's shitty...I've never used one.
