Internal HD too loud!

My internal hardrive seems to be getting louder. Maybe I'm just crazy, but its louder than my MAC now and it wasn't a few days ago. Maybe because it's getting fuller? Anyone have any suggestions for a quieter or 'silent' drive that I can replace the original for?

Its not gettin louder because its getting fuller thats for sure. But maybe you just started noticing it? Sometimes one doesnt notice the fan sound or hd sound until all of a sudden you hear it and then its the only thing you hear hehe..

As for other hd's they all make noises, but the Seagate Barracuda V is very silent compared to others. Thats what Im putting in as soon as my mpc arrives

Yeah I know they all make some noise, but I'm lookin for something almost silent, like an I-pod....Basically silent. Is the Seagate Barracuda V that quet? BTW, what size are you going to get?

I agree. I can't believe they've put such a loud drive in.

Ref: IC35L060AVER07, or IC35L060AVVA07 (current model)

Please check with IBM for the heat specs.

Molex makes a drive enclosure that is supposed to greatly reduce the noise. Just how quiet it'll make our drives? I don't know. The enclose is only made for drives that dissapate <6.8 watts, so once I find out the specs on this drive from IBM I'll post them and a link to the Molex enclose. It's cheaper than a new drive!

Here's a link to a few documents about the IBM drive (Hitaci now owns this portion of IBM I guess). It looks like the Molex enclosure will work since the deskstar dissapates less than 6.8 watts and runs at 5 to 55C.

Here's the enlosure. I'm going to order one and install it. I'll take some measurements before and after, and let ya'll know what I get.

...Now after all that, I'm not so sure it'll work. I went to Molex's page and read further specs. They say under 5 watts, not under 6.8. Well, endpcnoise.com ships it with a special sticker. I guess I'll just try it and see how hot the drive gets. I might just end up having to get a Seagate Barracuda IV, or put a scsi drive in the computer closet.
