Questions about the 4K before I invest

If you go to the inside-of-the-back-cover of the MPC400 *User* guide,
there is a "standard MIDI Implementation chart".
You see it lists a dozen or so continuous controllers that are "hard wired"

If you go into GLOBAL mode (or is it MISC ?) to the FOOTSWITCH page, you will see a similar list of controllers/functions that you can assign to them.


I can't remember the details now -
but basically when i looked into it in great detail,
there seemed to be some of the "hardwired" controllers that did stuff,
others that didn't work,
and moreover the way they interacted with the Footswitches and with assignments you may have set up in the Program Modulation Matrix was buggy.

i.e. - same old story - dig deep into a feature, it turns out to be half-assed.

And, I emailed Akai support - they're like "huh?"

There's probably still a thread about it all on here somewhere - actually I'd like to read it again myself, cos I forget the details!

I wish there was neater place to keep these kinds of important info together, also bug reports etc - I can never find a damn thing when i do a search.

i think 4000 is midi slave -i record the 4000 into pt and then set a tempo map in beat detective -once the audio is in protools you can do what ever you want - even reprint modified song and it will line up to previous map -i'd like pt and 4000 to work together seamlessly but right now thats not really a priority.. because this method works for what i'm doing..

saw eric kupper's seminar at winter music conference last year -he was using beat detective to requantize audio tracks (midi tracks printed to audio) -i was kind of giggling -but the printed tracks simply were not lining up the way he anticipated -even doing a straight requantize moved the drum hits -and i'm assuming his sync was setup properly. check gearslutz.com for more discussion on 4000 sync issues (and no-ssl-yet's journey to the 4000 is entertaining).
