2 midi related questions

Hey!

Q1: I was wondering if its possible to connect a midi keyboard to the MPC4000 in order to control VSTi's from within Cubase SX? My problem is that i only have 1 midi in and 1 midi out on my computer and I would love to be able to play VSTi's using my keyboard with the MPC4000 as the sequencer. Btw, did anyone try V-Stack?

Q2: In a related problem; I tried to control a VSTi playing the pads but I dont get a "proper" scale, it sounds like the sounds somehow are randomly "assigned"? Any clue on how to get the pads to play in chromatic scale?

I cant really answer Q1 very well cuz I have my controller (motif) going to a midi interface (motu MTP XT). But I'm sure its possible. Check out the thread '4k to soft sequencers???' from last week. There's some good midi info there. As for Q2, you are right, in Drum mode (pad control), the pads are randomly placed along the keys in the default setup. But you can change which pad coresponds to which key note in the 'assign' page of program. I dont think there is any quick way to switch all pad assignments at once, I think you have to do them one by one.

I have a question for you...Did you ever install the Seagate Baracuda V? How's it workin out? Quiet?

I got help on the Q2 from the midicase mailinglist: To change it from just randomly assigned sounds simply click the button "Pad Assign" and change from default to chromatic! Instant happiness =)

As for Q1, I gotta look into that some more..

And as for the Seagate HD, I remember suggesting it to someone here but that was before I had my mpc4000, I just got it yesterday (WEEEEEEE!!!) so I havent installed any HD yet. ;-P But Im gonna go for a seagate though, I have em in my comp and they work perfect so far and are really silent.

I've had my 4000 since last October, and I'm still discovering 'hidden' features like this every couple weeks. Thanks again...

......But, I had to assign one of my pre-made Drum programs to a 'part' before I was able to switch that program from default to chromatic. It wont change in 'Program' mode......
