My MPC 4000 Just Died!!!

thats fkn shiat, been seeing a few of these posts lately, I guess its just inspiriation to reguarly backup, but what a pain in the fkn ass!!!

ikke ya sure know what your talking about?, what u just said has no relation to my problems, no i wasnt using a dvd drive ,and my 4k wasnt plugged into any external drives etc...
This wa my first session on this tune and ,everything in memory was recorded via a 1210 to the phono inputs,i was chopping and sequecing shit the whole time, I DID NOT USE AK.sys at all.........

U seem to think ya know more about this than me,akai tech,and the service center !?!!!!!!!!! also i dont need some punk telling this shit after losing nearly two months work******* ya know what im sayin

Akai tech and the service center both said this is isnt uncommon with well used drives and that i quote "sometimes the FAT32 format file table can become coruputed whilst saving" which can cause corruption in the drive or the whole drive and unless u back up and redformat it is likely to to get worse.

Not through using BAD .WAVS

"Invailid directory handle" error message can be caused through bad/worn cables,loose connections.Which wasnt the problem in my case cause it rebooted without that message...

The folder where all my music is at ,had 3 folders(used to be about 30 in there before problem) with odd writing in them and the 4k will NOT load them ,via ak.sys,or hd and causes the 4k to lock up when i go in that directory.

The first folder in my HD has bad .wav file format when trying to load,with only one sample loading out of 60 but i aint stressing about that cause i stopped using autoload a while back.

No HD is 100% safe way of storing data thats a fact ,i asked the bloke i talked to at the service center if this could be though defagmention ,but he said that was unlikely,and that this isnt a uncommon problem with old HDs in the 4ks.

So i cant stress enough back up your shit and dont let it buld up so its gonna take two days to do,so ya keep putting it off!(like me).

Anywayz i was wearing black all day yesterday':lol:',i backed up what i could ,didnt even bother trying to try formatting the drive,How can i trust after this eh!....Got myself a new one and now everything is fine..no probs':lol:'

and i asked if it could be the 4k not reading the HD right,and if i could recover the files by hooking it up to a PC , He said that its unlikley and didnt recommend it! ':cry:'but im gonna try it anyway

Yo reveal;

First trie to hook up the hd to your pc,, open up your pc and hook up the hd (yellow cable on the outside,,, pink on the inside)

Also,, open akasys, go to your files in the hd, and change the names into names with less characters, and rename them with normal characters,,, like change*(&#@*&@^$#)($) into asdfkuhkh.

THe mpc4k has also a bug in recognising characters, i hope it helps

No im sorry to say ive done everything i can think of without succes, 3/4 of the folder/files in that root folder have gone. nothing works ':cry:'

I was only telling what I did after having similar problems. I wasnt attacking anybody, man.

Before you do anything more stop for a moment.

Unless you have written new data to the drive (which I hope you haven't) then the data is still there. it's just a question of recovering it, which it would seem that the Akai OS won't let you do.

So a solution would be to find someone who has a Linux machine, mount the drive inside that and presto all your files will be there (but with funny file names no doubt). Rename em on your Linux machine, save to another drive and reformat the akai drive.

Shoudl work.

This happened in with one of the drives in one of the machines in my studio. Unfortunately it hadn't been backed up and i thought that I had lost about 3 months worth of work.. . .

Still got it fixed in the end.

thats real good news, maybe threre is some hope then,I didnt format/wipe or write anything to the drive so thats cool.
Does it have to be a Linux OS?i dont know any peeps with that Os,but im sure theres some companys that will provide this type of service.
