Quick question about the MPC. . .

Does the MPC 4000 have a mastering type compressor / limiter?

I.e. a brickwall comp / limiter?

Just trying to work out whether needing to get finaliser express or something similar for live use. . .

The fx on the 4k are rubbish!

And I dont think you even have a master track inside wich you can apply effects on. You cant even EQ per track.. You have 4 effects (wich are rubbish, like mentioned above). You can insert 1 or 2 of them on a track on the mixer. You can only apply dry/wet for both inserts.

The effects and routings are WAAYYYYY to poor on this machine!!

So.. If you want to compress everything with the FX board. You need to add the same compressors on all individual tracks and then you cant apply more effects on the tracks cause you cant adjust the dry/wet function anymore..?!?!

the FX levels and presets are being updated in the next OS which will be released soon.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

u can apply one(mono) or stereo FX to each sample/program and route the fx through each block into the next to chain them up or assign them to the same sends,u have 4 in blocks at 44.1 and
and two at 96k

u can set each sample with its own send level in the program page and set each programs send level in the multi page....

u can also adjust the wet/dry setting or the Fx in the effect page and assign the fxs to output to any audio output as= mono in mono out, mono in stereo out,or stereo in stereo out.
and you can set the dirrectsignal to off or on.

i think ya will need external hardware in there current state,but with the new OS ,we will all have to wait and see how much of a improvement has been made

But then all I am looking for is a brickwall limiter.

It's for live and all I need to use it for is to pump a little volume, would I be right in thinking that I could set all the FX to send to one FX block, turn the volume of the dry sample right down (post fx loop) so all i am getting in the way of signal is the summed fx output? EG all tracks output 0% dry signal and 100% wet, all to the same bus which has got a brickwall slapped over it?

I find it pretty hard to believe that a £1300 machine doesn't have the ability to master compress. It's supposed to be a bloddy music production center after all. . .

Yes this is all possible ,but atm when you send a signal to the FX blocks u loose 12db or so in return level':shock:' ,this is one of the things that is gonna be sorted in the next OS(to be released next month).
apart from that the compressor/limiter is mos def capable of your needs,
And nah it doesnt have a master comp so ya have to assgin each program to the same FX block in the multi page.

Come on AKAI, that's a pretty important requirement. I wonder if we are likely to see a master FX block in the next (few) software revisions?

Glad to see that with a (metaphorical) bit of gaffa tape and effort I don't have to go down the route of purchasing a finaliser express or similar just to get the MPC to the same percieved volume as my turntables / cd decks / other sound sources for live use. . .

my mp is prob the loudest output piece of equip in my whole studio after I set it to 0db output, Im always turning it down cause its the first to clip, just my 2cents

Master Fader/channel would def be nice, though remember the machine isnt aimed for that
