Have you ever had a bunch of Songs in your MPC4000,
and wanted to re-arrange them into the same order as your intended set list for a gig?

If so, you'll have discovered that there's been a bug in the SONG mode Copy function since about OS 1.20...

You should be able to select a Song in Song mode, press the magic orange WINDOW button, and get a dialog which lets you press F6 to COPY, and you can do a "move from position-X to position-Y" kinda thing, to shuffle them all round, one at a time..."

But, the damn thing doesn't work, grrrrr!

However I actually noticed there a "workaround".

If you have a bunch of songs in memory such as...

1. Yesterday
2. Come Together
3. When I'm 64
4. I am the Walrus
5. ...

Say you select I am the Walrus, press WINDOW, and do COPY 4. I am ther Walrus
> 2. Come Together

I am the Walrus should over-write Come Together.
But it doesn't.

But I discovered that if I then press WINDOW on 2. Come Together,
select DELETE, then I am the Walrus *was* copied and it was there underneath all along!
Wierd!

Definately a bug, but it means you can work around it.

(PS I am not in a Beatles tribute band, these are just examples ;-)

Cool, I'll have to keep this in mind. Although I've not used the 4k in this manner, it's still good to know just in case.

Actually ... this was implemented as a feature for top producers to hide / secure their work in case the mpc got lost or stolen ...
:P
