inside the 4k ( pics pictures ) FYI

Yesterday I installed anther 256mb of ram giving me the max of 512. I also took this time to give the 4k a good cleaning. After I got'er all cleaned up I took pictures of what it looks like. Here is what I came out with.

Tip,

See the brown board in the front that connects to the headphone out. See how the cables that come out of it are tied together with those power leads? This is what causes the notorious hiss that comes through the headphones. Untie it and run it to the right and make sure it does not contact the power leads to the HD and cd drive. Pull the cables it was tied to and the tie to the left. If the headphone leads are too close or in contact to power leads it will cause hiss.

Unplug the power first and still do not touch the capacitor or power in supply.

Be careful when raising the hood not to rip the LCD ribbon out. If it does happen to rip loose from the base connector, you can still get your LCD back on line by simply stuffing it back in.

What did you use to clean the inside with? an aircompressor can thingy?

I was expecting it to look cheap and crappy inside since industrial design in gear has taken a major slide since the 80s, but it seems pretty nice.

interesting as i have a problem sampling in my 4000....as soon as i press record in sample mode it automatically stops before i press the stop button even though i have set plenty of sample time...
the guy i bought it off said it got maxed to 512 but he seemed pretty incompetant and didnt know what he was on about...where abouts is the memory in the 4000 and how could i check that its in place correctly as something is preventing me from being able to sample (nightmare)

Bit off the topic but any help to a new 4000 user would be appreciated....

yeh i found it tonight when i opened it up...also initialised the mp...still the same problem although one in every 8 or 10 attempts it works (the same as in any other mpc) as i have set it to record manually i press stop when i have the sample but then the next ten attempts the record box just closes very quickly as soon as it tries to record (use space in the memory)

im really lost and cant think why it can work sometimes but not most the time......i was thinking of removing one of the ram sticks and trying to problem solve that way or maybe just re install the o.s


what you think?? any suggestions would be appreciated....it's 3am in the morn here and im still trying to find the answer after building my first rough beat on it tonight and feeling the machines power.......the resolution is definatly noticable having always worked with 96 pqn previously...

anyway hope to solve this problem

you might wanna take out both memory sticks and close it back up and attempt it just to see if its not bad memory that you are dealing with
