Sound module to go with the mpc4000

After a struggle I have managed to buy an mpc 4000...now I would like to know which sound module would u guys recommend to go with my mpc??

I am mainly getting into making beats that are oriented to hip hop, but I would also later on try to branch out into Drum n bass.

Right now I am favoring the Roland XV5080.

Also I have read during my research on the mpc that the effects are not that good, what hardware effects board would u recommend to get a better sound.

as far as sound modules the xv-5080 or xv-5050 are good and not too expensive, but the problem with xv-5080, the korg triton rack, and the motif rack is that they sound too much alike, what I would suggest is getting a EMU sound module because the sounds are really gear for hip hop and alot of their expandable rom sounds are dirt cheap. There's the proteus 2000, planet phat, extreme lead, ect. I bought an extreme lead for $220 and I like the sounds alot better than my korg triton or my roland xv-5050. Search around and do alittle research before you buy anything.

Sample all of those modules,and take them back. I have sounds from damn nearly all major sound companies. The only thing that I keep was my Motif,because it's hard to sample realistic Piano,an Rhodes sounds.

there are tons of great units around! i use an access virus kb and had the virus b (rack version) before! both are great units imo! the never versions (c series) are even better! they are all subtractive synths which offer endless possibilties for sound creation! i would say that those units are esp. great for dnb and all kind of techno music! ... if it sounds good to you also check out those nordleads! ... if your looking for real instrument sounds such as flutes and trumpets, ... i wouldn't recommend the viruses - neither the nordleads! ... similar to the 4k the vius is expensive but worth each single penny imo - older models such as the a series and even the b seies now are not that expensive!

for fxs i d recommend some decent compressors and reverbs!

This is actually good advice....I have a friend that does this...I used to clown him but it makes perfect sense

yeah but sampling 'sounds' and sequencing so you use a 'sound module' are VERY different things.

depends on how complex you want to make your composition.

letting a module work as the tone bank free's up your 4K to do other things.

my 4K controls

1. K2000S
2. Korg O1WFD
3. Roland MC303 w/ SH32 Slaved
4. Korg ER-1

and has 96% of it's sample memory free to let me sample acoustic instruments.

depends on what you want to do and how you want to do it > i'm kinda forced to do this cause i use the 4K more like a control center so i can record solo.

if i were you i'd comb through some used Rack gear and get a few modules working for you. the modules should have fx with them but if you're looking outboard Lexicon and TC Electronic make some nice budget multi-fx with isolated engines for the reverb and modulation fx.

What is it with you guys?? But seriously, how can you get to know a unit within a week so that you get the best out of it...what you don't want to do is sample the presets do ya, that would be boring!

I second that. I just got a pk-6 keyboard from emu and then added four roms.... the keybord now has thousands of sound and you can pick which roms suite you... like a custom keyboard...
