Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

lol... thats the MPC he sold me. In the picture you can see I had the money in my hand...

Image

he went software (logic) and then started using the 2500.. I tried to convince him to get the 5k, but he felt the OS was the same as the 2500. He loves the workflow of the 4k, so he's back using the mpc 4k again.

He said he might purchase the prophet 08 rack or andromeda soon.

I loved his video expecially his little girl. She reminds me of my niece.

What caught my attention the most is what he was doing with the 4K. He was only using it as a sequencer.

No, what he was doing was playing already finnished beats.
it simple to do. All you do is open up a blank project import all the stereo mixdowns on to there own track within the daw. hit the solo button then hit pla. once the song is finnished or you played enough you go to the next track and repeat those step.
And also in the beginning video of the vid he was play a synth but you dont know where those drums where coming from do you?

What I got from the video is that he sequences with the MPC 4000 and keep all his sounds in Logic. In fact, that was his exact quote. Which is exactly how I worked until I switched to the MPC 5000.

This is not an MPC versus MPC thread..but you already know that the MPC 5000 is the hottest thing out....damn..where is my OS2? :P

Good post Askia you are on point with this one. And yes alot of us work with Logic and the 4k this way. Regardless what mpc one has pretty much any mpc 5k to 500 can do the same thing.

Check out Clint`s thread on this it has been going on in mpc studio threads.

yup. He recently had another daughter...

But yeah he mainly used the 4k to sequence and to use his drum programs. He puts all his kicks on one program. All his snares on one program, all his hi-hats on one program etc etc etc...

In the picture he was showing me how to use the 4k, but he was rushing cuz his wife kept calling him telling him to hurry up!

Right before he leaves the studio he goes "oh wait, I forgot to do something"...he presses some buttons and all I see is the 4k screen says "Format HD"... I'm like, why are you doing that.... He goes, "thats 7yrs worth of work on this hard drive, I can't let you have that!"

sorry to go offtopic, but I saw this cats video on youtube and have wondered something for a while:

Is he the one who made the "Ni**as" beat for Biggie, Eminem, and fiddy? Cause I think he mentions something like that and that beat goes hard.

What you were implying is that all his sounds were in the MPC 4000 which they are not. I am fully aware that you insist on loading 512 MB of samples into your MPC 4000. That is not trying to go down that road with you again. But the way Needlz is working is the same way many producers are working....which is having gigs of samples at your finger tips and not being limited by a hardware sampler.

I am still waiting for Akai to take to the concept of software samplers but have an MPC-like control surface for complete control of the software. I want 100% of the software's parameters to be controlled via a control surface.

As of now akai is going software with
the mpd 32 and the apc for ableton live.

MPC cornerstone is the sequencer in this
type of setup with software.

Regardless still the ease of sampling, creating programs
and sequencing with mpcs is a feel that is an advantage
over some software apps.
