newbie having a hard time figuring how to assign sounds

trying to figure out how to assign my sounds to the pads.any help is greatly appreciated

I have used a 2000xl and a 1000.

Hit pad button and assign sounds to pads. Though the manual is the best as there are several ways. Read it.

I guess I should have wrote this first.So I wouldnt have gotten these negative comments.I tried for about an hour and a half.It Seems different from the XL where u can assign once you load your sounds or you can do it from the program menu.I got to where I can see it on the assign pad menu but when I go to the main screen to play it I still get no sound.So not sure what I am doing wrong.Also I just got it on tuesday I want to make sure it works properly.

read manual on how to create a program.

then read manual on how to assign that program to a multi.


then, on main screen, toward the bottom, you ill choose which program number to play.


then you will be able to play your newly created program, from the main screen

First assign sounds to programs, next assign programs to a part in the multi, then assign the part to a track. Basic steps you will find all of this in the first few pages of your manuals hint, hint which I just did for you. For in depth understanding one should take out the time to just read first as the 1k (I used to own) and 4k is setup different. Mainly 1k is one program per track hence you load most of our sounds 2 to 3 banks deep. However the 4k can have 2 to 16 and more programs per track at one time hence the usage of multis to setup pan, level, outputs, and efxs these are parts. So you have to assign all programs on the 4k to a part to get any sound then assign the part to a track unlike the 1k that only assigns programs to a track.


Remember a 4k goes beyond a 1k in layering and it is more akin to a multitimbral synth
which has a multi too like performace in motif or combination on a triton you must assign a program to a part then part to a track. Read up in the manual on step by step and the newbie bible on the forum for future questions too.


I understand coming from a 2xl mentality to the 4k I had to get my mind
right and learn what all the new words meant and hit each button with the manual in hand plus rtm was the best advice I received when I started no joke. You can do it believe in yourself nothing to it.

Finally figured it out. I had everything right. The previous owner had ,in the midi section, set the pads to midi out.Once I set the pads to sequencer everything was on point.Thanks again..peaces

i just got my 4k from UPS and I had the same issue with assigning sounds to pads. Search function helped me.


I'm coming from the 5k and the 5k does this in two or less steps... ill get used to it tho...



edit: im wrong. It does it in the same amount of steps. Just that with the 5k, it "forces" you to assign the sound to a program, whereas with the 4k, if the sound is not assigned to a program, it will stay just stay in memory until you assign it to a program or purge it from memory.
