Brand new MPC4000 from Japan won't power up

What up, fam?

...I just copped a brand new, still sealed in the box MPC4000BL Plus.

I had it shipped from Japan, it cost me a mint.

Here's the thing, the ish won't power up!!! :shock:

I already checked for loose cables.

The power supplies in these are universal.

Any advice?

If you've got a volt meter, open it back up and start probing to confirm there's power where it should be.

Check for damaged boards or anything out of the ordinary (memory too).

Thanks.

I finally got my hands on a volt meter. I can confirm power is getting as far as the the big transformer on the power supply.

What should I be seeing in terms of output form the power supply? I put the meter in DC mode and it's not reading anything from any of the output pins. Am I doing it wrong?

So I tossed the power supply into a friends 4000 and it powered right up.

Any clues? Dead motherboard, maybe?

...I checked all the boards for cracks, etc.

The fuse is fine. The power supply works when installed in another 4000.

Would removing the memory rule that out?...'cause I tried that.

No point in trying to fix it yourself, get a tech who knows samplers to look at it, it's probably something simple and won't cost too much to fix. There might be some circuit fuses on the mother board or a damaged component. Other than that you. Could cause more damage to the 4k in trying to fix it. I repair pro audio gear for a living but live in Aus.
