4K w/Pro Tools 6.4 LE (digi001), ADAT clicks

That's pretty much the deal as stated above. If use the mixer to route tracks through the ADAT board (12, 34, 56, 78) I get this crazy clicking sound. I've been told that it has something to do with synchronization and I've been trying to experiment with different settings, still S.O.L. If anyone is using the ADAT board in their 4K and can drop some knowledge, that woud be nice still.

Are the the sample rates the same?

Yeah, I have sample rates off 44.1K in both Pro Tools and the 4K. I was looking for a way to slave one off the other in the hope that would fix the problem. For example, on the GLOBAL>CONFIG page, I changed the Digital out sync option to DIGITAL IN. As I'm writing this right now, I'm trying to figure out how to get Pro Tools to send information from the 001's SPDIF OUT jack to the 4K's DIGITAL IN jack.

I'll keep grinding, maybe you got some tips I could use.

Check the output levels.

Output levels? Which ones?

Check your Master Level on the global page. Try lowering the level see if that helps with the clicking sound.

Change the bitrange to both 16 or 24bits. That should do the trick.

Get your Digi001 (DAE) Driver to slave to ADAT and make sure your MPC is master clock...that way it should definitely work...

You should also make sure that the DAE driver is set to 'Optical In' Not Digital In...

......Or....Get yourself a really nice master clock to slave everything digital in your studio to, including mpc and computer but this only applies if you have a few bucks to spare since good wordclocks don't come cheap!

I can go into Hardware setup in PTLE and set the clock source to optical and format to ADAT. But how do I get the 4K to send out the master clock information. I do not see options for specifiying this. Can you shed some light. Thanks boss.

Obviously at the very moment the MPC4k is sending out an
ADAT signal the clock information is embedded in the signal as is
with pretty much every digital device not set to slave mode...

As far as the DAE slave mode concerns there are three choices,
either Internal, Optical and sp/dif. You have to set it to Optical
(At least this is the case on my Mac and I'm not sure if you're a mac
user too and if the pc driver gives these very options)

When you go out of the MPC using ADAT you miss out on the typical
MPC sound (Except for timing) Maybe that's not quite what you're after?!

Reveal, those articles were helpful. I understand more about how digital transfers and clocks work now. I'm curious as to what you all prefer, using the 4K as master or Pro Tools as master?
