My thoughts on OS 1.60.

I think its rubbish.
After working with it for a whole night, I found tooooo many downsides: (Im not referring to the shortcomings the OS has, Im talking about things it does very badly)

-sometimes my harddrive is blank.
-editing a multi whilest playing back results in slowlyness (very!)
-still 'replace' instead of 'merge'
-saving and loading from and to the internal harddrive is a lot slower than it used to be.
-very slow screen redraws (it reminds me of pro tools on a slow pentium 3 system) In fact this OS reminds me at Windows! (And I bought an MPC because I started to hate computers 'cause they kept on crashing, go figure..)

I think these are too many downsides this OS has. If OS 1.61 isnt in my 4k very quickly (and without bugs), Im selling this white baby before its TOO late and everybody knows this MPC is buggy and Akai cant fix it. (Or they dont have the knowledge to do it :P )

I miss Roger Linn! :(

im not having any of those problems. and some of those features are to keep you from getting currupt save files when reloading. I like the new cut and paste because you have to be more specific about what is you want and getting what you asked for

i like 1.60 alot but ...

-sometimes my harddrive is blank.

noticed that too, press main and go back into load, and the drive is there again ... shoudn't be there but takes you just 2 seconds more

-still 'replace' instead of 'merge'

they ccould change it, but its also no big deal for me ...

-saving and loading from and to the internal harddrive is a lot slower than it used to be.

seems to me too that its slowly and should be improved ... dunno but i guess its related to the new audition feature ... what i noticed in the past year on the 4k - features often get implemented and work but include some sort of small bug or other shorcoming. users send bugreports and in one of the next os upgrades they work fully bugfree ... just my opinion

-very slow screen redraws (it reminds me of pro tools on a slow pentium 3 system) In fact this OS reminds me at Windows! (And I bought an MPC because I started to hate computers 'cause they kept on crashing, go figure..)

like pro tools on a pentium 3 seems a bit exagerated to me but imo the more features are in the 4k, the more bugs will arise! imo akai should focus on few essential feature upgrades that improve the workflow and creative (musical) possibilities for 4k users. top priority should always be the stability of the 4k imo (no crashes) ...

exept for the replace/merge issue I'm not sharing any of your problems, the screendraws are sharp and quick (I remeber slow screen draw in erlier os when loaded with ram but now nada.. nothing.. not a glitch even with 250mb loaded, and speaking of loading time thouse 250mb are like 3-4 minutes to load wich is in imo extreamly fast for a hardwhare sampler, so I'm sorry to say I ain't feeling it that way..

No problems so far only my computer (Peak 4) kept crashing shittt!!!!!!! but the old mpc has been steady like a rock. This damn Apple is starting to drive me nuts. I`m diving deeper into the keygroups and synthesis is the MPC is a monster. :D

I am not having any of the problems either. As for the hard drive being slow it could just be your hard drive. Did you install a hard drive with a 7200 RPM or faster? With the more info saved on a hard drive it takes longer to access info because of a slow RPM.

my harddrives and memory are the same as before on OS 1.51. HD's both are 7200rpm's, 40GB

you might wanna try reinstalling the OS and see if that helps

I get the blank hard drive too, a lot.

Plus if i use a sequence/song with ext sync on, then power off, when i switch on the MPC again the main page still says sync on and the machine freezes for a while...

Look out with that hd going blank, i think it might result into a complete hd failure. Everytime the screen goes blank, the mpc has to reconnect the hd, and if that happens to manny times, it ruins the hd.

I had that shit with "the usb connection getting lost" trouble in akaisys, and im sure it caused my hd to crash.

I havent installed 1.6 yet, and im intended to keep it that way.

I also wondered why they havent implented any significant improvement of the midi and sequencing possibilities,,,, even 1st grade information technology students can make such an app.
I mean,, jesus,,, how many times have poeple asked about the different track length features and the, note length edit???????

We have not seen this (and no reports at [email protected])
Is this just on power up? or does it happen when accessing the drive in the middle of a session?
Did you use the Spin-down option? (the next time you access the drive, it needs time to spin-up before its contents can be displayed)
Do you have a disk in the CD-RW drive? (the CD must be ready, i.e. spinning, before the MPC4000 can access all drives. if teh CD hasn't been used in a while, it takes time)

As I mentioned in http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=16672, Merge seems to be working as expected.
