tapping the stop button a few times real quick will stop the sample. (only good for long one shots) this way you wont get pissed off when you are moving from screen to screen when a sequence is playing and the all the sounds overlap. or if you have some vocals and you stop the sequence, you can also stop the vocals from playing out for three miniutes.

not a lot of people i meet with 4000's know this. i hate it when all my samples start overlapping. that should be on os fix/upgrade, (when moving from the main page, to the program or multi page and so forth while a sequence is playing, the sounds shouldnt overlap) now that i think of it, the problem might be how the initial sample is set. in the sample page, if the sample is set to say play as no loop, but you set the sample to one shot in the zone page of the program section, it could be the cause for this. ill check it out.

i think i found a way to create programs on the 4000 that will read in a 2000/xl, but i dont have access to a 2000/xl. if anyone is willing to help buy giving me their e-mail so i can send you a small (reall small) program file so my theory can be tested, drop me a pm or just post the e-mail.

:?

should work though. i dont see why not. and if it does, it would make no sense to keep this info to myself. some things should be shared.

use your hard drives for things other than music. lets say you bring your 4000 to a studio. you never know whos gonna walk in. it would be nice to have a folder containing information about artists you are working with. you could put a few pics in the folder, as well as an mp3 or of two the work you completed for each artist. and an artist bio. use the artists name as the name of the folder, and place it somewhere you can find it. this way, you could just drag it onto the harddrive of the pc at the studio, and present your artist to someone at a moments notice.

i keep a folder with all of the operating systems inside. this way, if i need to load an older os for any reason, i can just open the folder and pic the os. keep in mind with all the upgrades, some things may not be compatible later on. (you can only load then drim the load page on the 4000. i dont think you can load them from akai sys.)

Off course. When your program is set to 'one shot', it keeps on playing till the sample is finished. So its pretty obvious that when you stop your track, those samples keeps on playing. ;) Nice trick btw!

No need for changing this in a future update. This is perfect as it is! You can quickly search for one shots by hitting play and stop. It's handy from time to time, when you have lots of samples and forgot most locations.

i was talking about the fact that your sequence gets a little screwed up when you change from the main page to the program page. (when the sequence is playing) like if you have a loop of two bars, but the actual sample is longer than two bars. when the sequence is playing, and you enter the program page, the sample will not loop but it will play for its entire length. that should be fixed.

use it. chop your samples, place them as you please, and tune the entire program instead of individual samples. this way they are all in the same exact key. whatever samples dont fit, timestretch em in the sample edit page. when it asks you what to do with the sample when you are done, add it to the program where the original sound is, and then play the sequence. if it doesnt fit, delete the stretched sample, and stretch the original again. , repeat the process. eventually it will work. i find this way to be the best for getting tight timing with chopped samples. this is for those who choose not to use the pc for this. +/- a value of 2% should be fine in this case, as all the samples should be close in relation to time.

This really isn’t a tip, but more of a “heads up” if you didn’t know, as akai seams to have been very lo-key about this…

The MPC4000 actually has 2 nd FX DSP, apart from the 4bus FX in mutli/program.
This FX is located in “trim and “record, the really cool thing is that each sample in trim can have its own FX setting: like patch memory, yes FX setting are saved per sample! …Koolaid
