MPC4000 Vista & Leopard compatibility

So in a few years ill still have my mpc4000 but ill probably be running Vista. Is Aksys & the USB driver compatible with Vista? Did someone try? Because theres no way Akai will upgrade their software..

And what about Leopard for Mac?

I like to drop samples to the mpc from the computer Im tracking to. It is a part of my workflow

I asked about 2 years would we get 64-bit WinXP drivers - none materialised.

There'll be no Vista drivers any more than there's be a new OS update.

The 32bit WinXP drivers won't work on Vista - you need completely different drivers.

I guess teh way its gonna be have to be done is storing samples on a USB HD and then connecting that USB HD to the 4000 etc. No "realtime" drag and drop though. FUK AKAI.

Lucky for them the new MPCs rely on a built in driver so they don't have to program one. Then again, they have the functionality of a memory stick, whoopie.

These days you really have to keep an old computer or two in the studio. A lot of gear made in the past few years has some sort of editor, librarian of other sort of computer functionallity... but cant expect updates for discontinued products. I guess any software that connects to the machine by MIDI only has a chance at working since then the gear doesn't need it's own driver. USB will probably be a different story.

Ah but they don't still produce the 4k.
It's already been listed as discontinued on the Japanese site, the US site will stay in denial as long as possible.

luckily for me, the only headache i have w/the mpc is just aksys. because if i had a crappy sequencer i would have been pretty upset. =-(

actually, i'm disappointed... one in myself, because i didn't research the issue w/the mpc4k enough before i bought it. two because i didn't research akai enough... and three, i feel like if i had been left hanging w/something that's not finished... i can only imagine what could have been, and just deal w/what it is.

luckily for akai... i'm not upset enough to start throwing akai/numark execs/employees out of airplanes over the atlantic like we did to our commies back in argentina in the seventies.

that also reminds me... my neighbor called akai a few weeks back, and the rep was re-assuring my neighbor that mpc4k was here to stay and it was going to be their flagship model for some time to come, and they (akai) will continue to support it and update/upgrade it.

There are no drivers needed for running aksys on OS X. I think Aksys was last updated before Tiger was released so it should continue to work fine with Leopard.

yes thats true. osx doesnt need drivers. i totaly forgot that. great!

They won't - the vista driver model is completely different to XP.

Have you tested it? No you did not.. are you in any post positive about something?



Just point to the folder where the driver is located after switching on the mpc. Accept all and you are ready to go.

Is that what Vista looks like?

It's on 32bit unfortunatly. But many applications i like aren't on 64bit yet.

When i have the time i will try a 64bit computer.
