Pretty much all samplers work the same if we follow the steps in the videos we can do pretty much the same things on the 4k. No fear, no hesitation sound design like you want to. Just we have to understand the basics.

Hardware samplers are the inspiration and direct source that most software samplers are based on. As most of us might be new to using a full sampler like S series Akai, Emu, or Roland etc, the setup, destinations, and the process of sound designing may be a be mystery. The software samplers visual parameters gives us feedback to see and emulate. The basics for both software and hardware sampling like the 4k is pretty much the same.

The video shows several steps just like the 4k.

Basic looping just the loop window on the 4k after the window button.

One shot, release loop, and reverse loop

Crossfade looping also after the window button.

Changing the loop length and start in sample edit of the 4k.

Oh well live and learn Aux EG++++++++

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Using a Aux EG to control pitch, LFO to filter cutoff, and all the same.

Changing the programs by velocity in Zones

Changing the programs by keyzones in keyranges.

Using External control in Program Matrix to setup a racks system to play and control various parts of pitch, volume, and timbre over several different programs with one controller.

All of which you can see you can do with hardware or other samplers in your posssesion. The new can show what the old can do at the same time such as the 4k.

Enjoy the videos as I have learn and gleamed alot of ideas and techniques for the 4k from them. True I use and own Live 6 just I have the biggest controller, best sequencer for my feel and the tool I feel the most understanding of which is the 4k. To each his own but the principals are the same.

Samplers are very powerful and creative tools especially when we understand the basics.

Watch and learn and have fun. No fear, no hesistations.

Remember in the 4k modulations assignments are in the program matrix aka patchbay like the old moogs and such. It`s all the same really whether software or hardware just the basics pitch, timbre, and loudness. You can control the sound however you want too with your tools.

Anytime my man. I figure if there was a way to show how it is done then that would help us all out more. Samplers are universal. :D :D :D :D

Sound Design with clip edit aka Seq Edit on the 4k and step edit in the other mpcs.

Virtually most of the techniques in this video can be done with most samplers in the editor pages. The 4k Seq editor is graphic to see and use so the same and the qlink seq can be used too.

Chopping drums, drum timing and making a kit then a beat. The method is all the same just the view from software and hardware looks different. Live is based and built fromt the mpc2k. Live Clips are programs and tracks and sequences work vertically. The MPC are called programs and tracks. Yet the concept and process is the same. Watch and enjoy.

On the 4k we have three note triggers one shot, loop, and no loop.

As you can watch the video alot of loops that have been bpm synced are triggered by the loop setting.

Anyone can do the same on the 4k or other mpcs conneeted to a full sampler same concept and process.

Different terms for the same and similar functions the more you watch the more it sinks in that hey I can do the same thing with a little more work and understanding.

Could you explain how to let the startpoint and endpoint travel through the sample using an envelope on the MPC4000 like we do with Ableton Sampler? To get that instant timestretch effect. On the MPC4k you can modulate the start point, but the start point only goes to 9999 (ticks?) so in order to let the start and endpoint travel through the entire sample, we need to let the envelope control the looppoints and not the startpoint as you said earlier in your post. As I dont see this option in the modulation matrix, Im affraid this technique is not possible on the 4k but I hope I am wrong. Also, in Sampler, you can let the start and endpoint travel forwards and backwards through the sample. Only way I see me doing this on the MPC is to join samples and reverse the last one. Because traveling backwards through a sample on the MPC certainly isnt possible at all. There s a lot more Sampler can do which the MPC cant. Luckily for us there are some features the MPC has which Sampler hasnt (like filter per pad/sample)

Sorry JazznFunkPark I overlooked the linking start point and loop start points on Ableton live Sampler option. You are right zone start needs more samples to go into the sample. And yes you are right on how the loop start isn`t a destination in program matrix oh well I with keep trying something new to come up with.

I`m glad you tried it and found that out and let me know thanks. As far as in trim page I do set the loop end to length then I go to loop start using a qlink slider manuallly moving a quarter note or bar loop all around the phrase as my sequencer runs. I set the monitor window to multi. So far the only way to record it has been live as I don`t understand yet if I can program it in like on Live.

Experienment make mistakes learn something new and try again. Holla back.

Are you saying you can let the start point travel forward in a sample during an entire measure? (with the qlink?) How does one setup such a thing?

Using the loop start and a quarter note or bar note loop within a 4 bar phrase with qlink slider and pressing the active key I can play while the sequence is running. All I do is make sure that the loop end is set for loop length.
