drum pads on the 4k?

DOES ANYONE know how i should setup the pads on the 4k so that they dont play a sound twice when i hit them?i have hard time doing a simple drum track seems as if the pads might be too sesitive or on poly i dunno but i just want it to trigger a sound one time when i hit the pad

I've had this problem too for quite some time (ever since I had the 4K)....it seems that it's about how you tap the pads...make sure you don't 'bounce' on them with your fingers (try to make your fingers 'stick' for a bit)...in my case that helped.

make sure your hitting in the center of the pad not the corners.

yeah, what they said, where you hit the pads matters, you can also adjust the pad sensitivity to your liking.

I don't have the 4000, but on the other MPCs its pretty easy to change.

Click Shift (6) program page, then DRUM 1 for example. Then click on the parameter section, select the pad/sample & change in the Overlap section. It defaults to poly. You can change to Mono or Note Off.

What I did, since it defaults to poly always, is create a default program with all the pads set to mono. I load that in before building a program. Otherwise you'll have to always change to MONO/one shot everytime.

When I first got an MPC, this was my first frustration, but it was easy to fix!

I don't think setting the play back to mono changes the (unwanted) retriggering of the pads.

well my 1st mpc was a 2500 and there was a way too change it but havent found it yet on the 4k,but i also had the dvd tutorial which explained how its done ,but couldnt figure it out the 4k so ill try some of the tips youve given me

It's a design flaw on the 4k, as far as I can tell. I've owned a 60, 1000, 2500 & the 4000. The 4k is the only one that double triggers if I don't hit it just right. If i play anything but 1/8th notes I can't hit the pads without double triggering. I can drum out 1/16s but I have to keep my fingers on the pad when i hit the note to prevent doubles. Some say you just have to learn to play it like any other instrument. No clue.

I'm replacing the sensors this weekend; lets see if that helps at all. Double triggering is annoying as hell.

yeah, I think it's pretty random, I had a few issues when I first got mines, then I just messed with the sensitivity and my laying technique, hasn't been much of a problem, i'm sure replacing sensors would help, I had similar double triggering on my EMU PX-7 from time to time

we'll see if bazziman's new sensor do the trick

i had this problem on my roland fantoms pads to....they callled it a flam. i really havent had that problem with my mpc though....maybe once or twice

ive even had that problem with a trigger finger from m audio.... they all do it once in a while

Did the sensor replacement make a difference?

I think you need to clean or replace some parts......I had that issue with two different MPC 60's over the years as they grew older......so far my 4K seems to be holding up.

Sure did. In mine some of the glue had come off from the old ones (there was a little 'air' between the sensors and the metal plate. I don't have to ram the pads as hard as I used to and I only get 'flams' when I play really, really fast.
