newbie having a hard time figuring how to assign sounds

edit: im wrong. It does it in the same amount of steps. Just that with the 5k, it "forces" you to assign the sound to a program, whereas with the 4k, if the sound is not assigned to a program, it will stay just stay in memory until you assign it to a program or purge it from memory.

Just curious.....how is the 4000 compared to the 5000? I'm not looking to get a 5000. I think the 4000 is the still the standard which all other MPC should be built around, but i'm just curious?

I purchased my first 4k from Needlz the producer, ( I have pictures in the show your crib thread). He tried to explain to me how to use it.. but when I got home, I forgot everything. I just knew I was intimidated by this big cash register. I nver really got into it, and sold it for a profit.


Then I copped the 5k. out of the box (without reading the manual), it was the most intuitive of any MPC I ever had used. To load samples, to assign sounds to pads, to layer them; felt like it required one or two less steps than the 4k. Its super easy to use and I could work fast as hell without feeling like I have to stop and go thru mad menus to get a quick function done.

Overall, I feel that with the 5k, Numark was trying to cater to a GROWING newbie/software market. I think they forgot they have a huuuuuuge long-term user base that are more loyal than the newbies.

If numark can fix some minor firmware/OS bugs and add a couple of more features, The 5k would be the best MPC of them all IMO.

For now, im sticking with the 4k until (hopefully) akai gets it right...

If the Assign To Pad is set to OFF, then the 5k loads samples without assigning them just like the 4k does.
It doesn't force anything.
