The sad thing is that my MPC hard drive wont even show up in the My Computer section. I have to try and use my Windows XP computer to transfer my sounds...

Yes it only works using XP mode if you have 64 bit. It is due to the USB driver. It is a 32 bit driver and can't run on a 64 bit OS. Got mine to work in XP mode though. What was cool was this was the first time I could transfer so many files with no crash.

My system is as follows:

- Windows 7 Home Premium

- 64 Bit Operating system

I can hear the PC when I hook up the MPC but the computer will not recognize the drivers.....at all....

As stated above, you need to install and use XP Mode if you want to use ak.sys with a 64 bit OS. I've been using VirtualBox to do the same thing.

I have heard various bad things about Vista overall, but I never used it. I can tell you that W7 32 bit is as stable as XP when using Aksys. And strangely enough, so far I never have lost an Aksys connection in W7 but I used to "sometimes" with XP Pro.

which version of windows 7 are you running? 64bit or 32bit?

Yeah, it don't crash anymore. In XP it crashed constantly. Who woulda thunk it.

I finally made it to Windows 7 64bit Ultimate this week.

I got the MPC4000 & AkSys 2.5.3 to work using the "XP Mode" virtual PC thing.
Basically Win 7 lets you run a complete virtual Windows XP in a window on your desktop, and you can install the MPC4000 USB drivers and AkSys in there as per normal...
then it "publishes" it to the main Windows 7 Start menu > Programs list, so you can run it from there with a single click in future.
Fingers crossed it seems to be working fine so far.
Am intrigued to see if it will actually be more stable on this computer (better motherboard/chipset!)

managed to install it and get it to see the mpc in xp mode.. first thing i tried was to transfer a +1gig folder thathad soem sub folders with samples..

then.. i get the same exact bs that i always used to get before.. an error saying that the mpc "may have been unplugged"

so i then have to restart the mpc and unplug and plug back in a few times to get the comp to see it again... then tried again, 1 single folder, 30mb big, 28 samples, same crap again.. that never happened before..

that was from xp mode, will try running it from windows 7 and see what happens

massive disappointment after finally getting the computer to recognize the mpc.. using a usb stick is not an option, takes way too long and is killing the work flow completely.. its ok for a few samples but not when there are more than one folder as i cant just copy all folders from the usb stick directly to the mpc

edit: nope, does not work from windows 7, cant find the mpc then, also cant install or even find the drivers then.. and in xp mode i cant even transfer a single sample, always locks up and loses the connection

and the exact message i get is "usb error 15 on z48 - uninitialised - it may have been unplugged?"

its not the same old too big file or too long name, i get it from a single 1mb sample, and its just simple standard wav's

when googling the error the only thing i can find is on this forum: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14503 its ooold, and same error but from trying to do something else..

tried something different, i copied a folder of samples to the desktop, and this time i managed to transfer files and without the previous error, but it is still losing connection and instead i get a message saying that one or more files could not be transferred, or no message at all, it just stops transferring and i have to restart.. so when i try again, it happens again, but some of the samples that didnt transfer at first worked this time and vice versa... i dont know what this means or indicates but there must be some way to get this shit to work properly.. seems completely random now instead and it is not somhting i can work with.. i cant sit and having to restart and re-initialize aksys at completely random times and it can happen after just one sample too, ffs, lol

lol, i bought an external HD, i suppose that'll work.. one thing that i havent tried yet with aksys that i didnt think of before and that is to try using a different cable and use the connection at the front... i have a vague memory of reading that it doesnt work then, and think i have also tried it before.. but the mpc could recognize the external HD going in at the front, and could be opened, it just said unknown volume.. i will report back once i've made all backups and transfers to the external HD, because if it works, then i'd rather have that than a functioning alternative

and yes, i know it has all been talked about before.

alright, external HD works excellent, also for some reason there have so far been no problems at all moving lots of samples and folders from the mpc straight to this new external HD, via Aksys used with XP Mode..

lol no.... i've spent over 16 hours doing backups now, and its nowhere near the end of it... also started to notice seemingly successful transfers where the files when compared to the original, can have a very varying sizes after the transfer.. 16mb file only being a couple of mb after the trasnfer etc.. so i am guessing that there is sometimes loss of data, but without the usual error popup..

then other times it only transfers the folder, and then i have to enter it and also select all files and do yet another transfer.. and i have to constantly sit and watch over it, its a **** nightmare really

and sometimes something happens so that if i select a group of samples only the first gets transferred, then the rest ends up being 0b files, so then i have to do it all over again...

also, i cant just start aksys in xp mode, i also have to click USB at the top of the screen and then click on "attach" on the mpc, and when the connection drops aout again i need to close aksys, click"release" and then "attach" again and it never really stops.. it keeps crashing at random, sometimes i manage to get it to flow, other times i think it is working great, then it crashes just after a long transfer and then i have to start over again

if i wasnt so incredibly patient, someone would have to die for this lol

alright, now i am trying wmware player, i could import xp mode into it and it seems more stable now.. about the same as using a real xp.. still get dropouts, but not as many as before

You're doing a service to 4k owners - many of whom claim it's impossible to get this working under Windows 7 - so well done mate!

cheers.. i had to uninstall vmware.. this morning i could for some reason not go online.. using mobile broadband with a little usb plug in modem, and the computer could just not see it, and instead of the regular web connections, it said vmware.. and could not even uninstal the mobile broadband so i could attempt re-installing it.. but managed to get it to work again

cant be sure it wasnt just a fail on the mobile broadband, so will attempt installing vmware again

and for others having problem with xp mode, they may have luck with this program, i've seen others use it with aksys with no problems


i also tried selecting things in aksys and choose "save to pc" but no difference there.. also tried hooking up the external hd to the mpc, in the hope that maybe i could bypass the compoter all together in the trasnfer process by somehow moving things right inside the mpc to the hd that was connected.. did not work.. also thought that maybe i can backup on cds on the mpc, but apparatly i can only back up things that are loaded into the ram... so that was pretty useless, itheres no way i would load up everything and then having to sort it all and create new folders once it is on the computer

so much pointless trouble, when they could just allowed straight access to the mpc's HD via the usb cable, just like you do with any external HD's.. the need for aksys to do that is just stupid

wish i could just make my own program somehow lol
