MPC4000 8 output expander

The MPC 4000 has many screws. You have to take off the side panels, and the front panel, then unscrew the the top from the bottom along the sides and the front.
It is a simply operation 20 minutes or so.

I recently got the analog 8 outs even though my RME card has adat inputs. THe decision came down to I have an analog mixer and wanted to use that for some EQ and fly stuff in to my Daw + I have other outboard I sequence from the MPC which goes through my mixer. Without going in to it I actually saw more benefit in having the analog expander (looking in to the future). IF it ever came down to it I could always get theh ADAT option.

If I only had a computer with an adat input I would get the adat card. If I had a mixer with some outboard I would get the analog one. It sounds cool anyway and is great to just reach over to a fader and change level, add EQ and FX.

Pity they didnt just make the expander analog and adat and change modes by flicking a switch

teh ADAT option on the 4k should really have been standard though.

BTW, Im an idiot when it comes to installing stuff. I managed this fine. Just dont haul the top case up to far. Prop it up a bit with something sturdy.

I have the 8 outs - Great for sending to a desk. I also have the ADAT - makes tracking into a DAW much easier. Funny enough - I think the sound from the stereo master outputs sounds better than the ADAT - this is just my humble opinion.

Because you're hearing all that 24 bit D/A engineering Akai spent a good deal of time/money developing.

I recently hooked up the 8 analog expander, I utilise the main outs as well, as L-R separate outs to a yamaha MG12Cx4 mixer, this mixer has one knob compressor, seems like a gain knob to me, anyway the sound is quite sweet. Yammy main outs go into a saffire (firewire) for recording. I like this set-up, have instant control of all drum parts, bass, and frilly bits. The mixer has insert channels so you can out a compressor over individual inputs, though have no compressor yet, apart from the funny yellow knob on the yammy.
