4000 early struggles

I actually did search however some people in the search had it working with XP Mode (64 and 32 bit) thus there was contradictory info.

I may have been one of those people in the search, apologies if anything I reported caused confusion. Previously I hadn't really tried to move any real amount of files using AkSys XP Mode. Since I have tried I've found even 5 files moved at once will crash it and/or make it lose USB sync.

Prior to that I used to use a netbook with Windows 7 32 bit for Aksys. That was prone to crashes too but I could usually move 50 or so files at once without a crash/disconnect so it was a lot more workable.

I transferred a couple of 1gb+ drum folders a few weeks back without issues. It took a looooong time to complete it though!

works fine for me. you could always use the USB port and load the samples to memory then save onto the MPC in a new folder.

XP Mode (64 bit) doesn't work at all for me. I can move maybe 5-6 files before a disconnect. I once got 15ish files but they were corrupt when they got there. The VMware worked perfectly. Can't say why XP mode works for some and not for others.

Again sorry I may have been one of the posters who gave too good an impression as I never tested it beyond 5-10 files. (I mostly filled my 4000 last year with a 32 bit Win 7 Aksys install.) And it actually seemed to stay stable when files weren't being transferred like during editing and those things.

A real XP/Win 98 box or the vmware seem to be the best ways, and 32 bit Windows 7 Aksys at least letting you do 50-100 files before a crash/disconnect.

maybe oftopic but i have my 4k two weeks and my early struggle is when i slice a drumloop into 16 zones and automaticly create a new program of it - i have to change the trim to ONE SHOT on every sample - is there a posibility to change the whole program??

And to this topic - i use aksys just for moving files from PC to MPC - as mentioned if there are big files or with long long names it just crash down. I would defenitly go deeper into aksys but have to make the flip from 2xl workflow to 4k first becuase it is much more complex.. I use W XP s3 and after instalation of aksys from AKKAI PRO web site all seems working..

Change 'ONE' to 'ALL' towards the top of the Zone screen but remember to change it back when you start editing other paramarers.

i gave up after several years of issues and after having bought a new computer with windows 7, making it pretty much impossible to ever have a functional workflow

but it was easily solved by having a sample library on an external HDD, just connect it and browse sounds there.. now i only use the mpc to store my own projects which i think is much better and it gives me more space for that when i dont need to keep a sound library on the mpc itself.. and now i got loads of projects stored, which inturn serves a bit as a sound library, as i can just open them to load up sounds if the external HDD isnt connected

Not sure if your issue was completely resolved... but I'll throw in my thoughts.

I own an "IDE to USB" cable along with a power source for said cables. I'm able to take the hard-drive out of my MPC and plug it into my computer and it shows up as an external drive... I don't do this every time I want a new sample, but I did it when I first set the machine up, as to load the bulk (8 Gigs or so) onto the machine. After that, I have a 4 Gig flash drive I use to transfer newer files onto the hard drive (via memory dumps). So far the system is working pretty well for me.


If your computer can't read the hard drive, I think format it with the program "guiformat" (to the needed Fat 32) and your computer should pick it up... I used that program to format my after-market hard drive, everything seems to work fine, the MPC sees it, and so does the computer.
