Why so many 4000's on ebay/craigslist?

Am I holding on just for nostalgia purposes, or will the Ren really replace the 4000? I don't want to turn this into yet another thread on the Ren, but I would like to hear some experiences from folks who have the 4000 and had traded it in for the Ren.

Yes times are hard for many, my self included. Thats why it took me some time to get a Ren. I didn't go selling the 4k to get it because the 4k works, I know how to use it and its an excellent machine which can still to this day slot in perfectly with a Daw set up. Much more so than any other hardware MPC (Akai ones I mean).

If someone is really in to making music with a specific piece of kit which totally works for them, they don't go selling it just to purchase something new which they don't even know if their going to gel with. We sell the gear that doesnt work for us, the gear that sits doing nothing.

This is a good time to purchase a 4k in the states. But not so many going around in Europe though, and I haven't seen them going for half the usual price.

I just started buying MPCs last year because I frankly got tired of working in the box. It was faster, but not better. I think people are going for software because it is powerful. I am looking to start a collection of old samplers and my next buy will probably be a MPC4000. I myself feel there is going to be a shift in music coming soon. I think the classic drum machines of the past will be sought after. One thing I find funny is that almost 90% of hip-hop and R&B songs have TR808 sounds in them (clap, snare, kick). That machine came out in the 80s and was initially considered a piece of trash. The irony.

Which MPC4K should I get, blue or white? lol!
