variety is the spice of life. Its the same thing like buyin reason or gettin an sp1200. its just a new toy. I get bored with one thing so i like to have alot of options. Sometimes u dont want to use an mpc or sometimes u want to use diff features with ur mpc. U dont have to be all or nothing. New gear keeps it interesting and if u have the funds and time to devot to learning it then do it up.

Different people have different needs. And different size of their wallets too. What's your point?

Don`t sweat it as long as you know long to use your s*h*i*t*. That`s all that counts.

Actually I went reverse and started selling off stuff to use less to make more.

More power to ya!!!!!

Do your thing kid. I got the MPC4000 and the MV-8000 also and I love both of them. I like to change up on machines every once in a while.

Yeah...But...

I guess if you've already got all the other things the money could go towards...Great monitors, a desk, tons of outboard gear, a nice mixer, dope convertors...the list goes on.
Or, you could get some other gear that would help with your live show... CD Turntables, a kaoss pad, lighting, etc.
The MPC would be more than enough to cover anything you could come up with, even live.

Why have two really expensive things that do the same exact thing? When it comes down to it, you can probably do most of what you can do on one machine on the other. Spend the money elsewhere. Diversify!

I did a live show with one recently at Seattle's Decibel Festival. We were a group
of 3 (Me on MPC 4000 & SE ATC-1, another on MPC 2000XL & Roland MKS-50, and 3rd
on Evolver, TR 808 , TR 707 and 2 303's.) So as you can see, I was far from taxing
the MPC 4000, but it was solid and held up like a rock. We soundchecked at 6pm and
went on at 10pm and I left it on between soundcheck and the show. Played about 10 songs about 5-6 minutes each and used the "Next Sequence" to seque into each track with no stops.

Plus, due to technical problems with Dj Twonz who was coming on after us, we had to play a couple of extra tracks to cover the time and keep the crowd dancing, and I sure was glad that we were on the MPC' and not on a Linear based sequencer, as I had already loaded up about 10 other seq/multi's in case we wanted to change things up during the set. We were able to on the fly decide which song we want, switch sequences to that and crowd had no idea that we weren't even originally going to play that track.

And I can confirm that it does sound VERY good over loudspeakers. Ohh.. so much
nicer then the studio monitors. (But then again so did the 808!)

There is an anoying bug on MPC 4000 when using the Next Sequence function and
you use Program Changes to have the MPC switch to a different Multi that goes with
that sequence. When you switch to another sequence, for a fraction of a second, the
New Sequence, plays the old Multi until the new Multi gets switched over. This causes
a brief blip of craziness. I believe that Flo Zombie has documented this quite a bit
on this board before ( I saw postings on it before I purchased the MPC and discussed
via private emails with him at the time).

I believe that he has worked around it by using 1 Multi in a live performance and
using all 128 Parts in the Multi. The downside of this method, is that you are stuck
with 1 set of FX options for the whole live set. ( If you used the 8 out option and external
FX then this isn't a problem for you)

I used a method, where before we switched sequences, I would normally go down break
down to an external synth playing or a drum solo before switching sequences. And also
prepare my sequences, so they all started off this way as well, so basiclly, there
were no notes on the new sequence to trigger the old MPC's multie Before it switched, other then external synths. I would then manually bring in the parts via Track Mutes.

I believe that Flo Zombie has reported this to Akai, but I have not (at the time, I was
more worried about getting the upcoming live set on my new MPC 4000 together
then reporting the bug, as I had a workaroudn). Just for safety sake, I will be
reporting this to Akai. I plan on giving them 2 of my Sequences/Multii's from the live
set that exhibits this problem, so that they do NOT have to recreate the issue themselves, just debug it and fix it :)

nice live set there renegadebliss,.. 3 persons alll runing their own seq & analouge synths, nice!, I know the 808 pushes some serius low end via pa and I've taken my 4k out once ,used as a trigger source for audio durning a live fashion show, was parnoied as hell that something would go wrong but the 4k was just solid all the way though, and the more I use it the more practice I get triggering seq un/muting tracks, playing qlinks and triggering the step seq on off ect it's a blast can't wait to put together a live set, many thanks for sharing thouse tips on the multi mate..

... any other issues with the mv besides the linear sequencing? does it have somethin comparable to 4k s q-links and q-link sequence?

and another question what about the mv grid resolution - ... 960 ticks - same as 4k?

I'm happy for you djflash, if you had the money and you just wanted to absorb the best of both sampler worlds, then i'm glad you made that move. Hopefully after you've spent enough quailty time with both units, you'll be able to let us MPC 4000 users know what we're missing with the MV-8000. I personally don't know anyone who has and uses both.

I'm pretty sure the MV eats up, chews down and spits out the MPC in the the fx department. Damn do those fx suk or what!?

No offence though, I love my MPC almost all the way except for the...well you guessed!

Cheers!

well its got better sounding FX and Real-time stretching, something you can active with usb and a PC ... but besides that I think the 4k spanks the Mw balls with a crow bar..

when I first saw the MW I was ooh wow hatz off Roland..but after research and more experience on the 4k, I found that there are just too man quirks that make it less of what the MPC is

like you can't edit many pads at the same time like on the 4k, 16bit sound (24/96k has me hocked never going back) no patterns, limeted MOD matrix filters & Lfo programmability compared to the 4k, 960 vs 480, the workaround like sample editing (like if to convert a stereo sample to mono you need to re-record the sample as mono L or R) limited live playability.. list goes on

& Just to stay on Topic of: FX

MW: you only get 1 insert FX
2 are hardwired to chorus and reverb (correct me if I'm wrong)
(u need to resample every time you need some other type FX)
you cant Automate them! (again you'll need to resample,,

so you get great sound but only one insert at a time

vs

MPC 4 Freely assignable insert FX
+ indepentent QFX in Trim mode
+ independent QFX Record input..
+ automaite them at will

The MPC has always been know to be an Open system and the 4k takes this to the next level: do whatever you want with whatever you want: No: can't do that in this mode bull..

I mean the Hard Disk records to ram for christ shake!! and doesn't even have EQ just basic tracks.. Rainold really did have it all in front of him just copy the MPC add their technology but they just had to cut corners to avoid cross marketing their products, like why the Hell did they leave out pattern mode or leave out the ability to trigger seq/mutes from the front panel, guess they were aiming for studio use only? and don't want to hurt sales on other grove approved gear & VS recorders.. phaa .. Gerald is all about the buck, the 4k is being developed with passion (or I assume so as akai seam to be taking their time in getting it right and so far its a luxurious UI..

and what’s with Rbus!!
Ronald thought you’d change the industry, if you want to expand over 6 analogue outs you'll need to carry around a rack unit.. why not just go universal Adat?? .. again its all about the buck for this company,

key... sorry for the rant, guess I've read to may wacky no facts MPC bashing from MW users ..really didn't want to back-talk the MW its a awesome concept, and I'd be very happy to work on it but I think I'm working on a stronger more open & more flexible platform as is..

Haha, seriously I know nothing about the MV...all I know is that the fx in the MPC are soooo bad that even my old trusty JV-1080 has better fx...let alone the latest roland box :)
