Do you mean that the white ones have something loose thats why they act crazy?

no I mean the drives that they first put in them were not compatible with the cpu,mine use to act so crazy I thought I got ripped off,so I called AKAI & they told me those drives did'nt match the cpu...when I PUT THE NEW DRIVE IN, whala ! never had any load problems,blackscreen or anything else (except 1.71).you might be going through the same thing. I thought the mp was wack,espsecially with all the rumors that were swirling around it at that time,but that new drive blessed me,it's worth the investment,plus there cheaper now.

I got a white one too, I have had a few probs, though minor, I may need to holla atchu to find what brand HD you got so that I can follow suit before I hit a brick wall. Did you dump what you made so far to computer or to cd to save you stuff?

So is there an issue with the white ones hard drives. If so, what make and waht size was the original HD in the white MPs.

seight when mines went out it had the blackscreen,it caught me off guard,could'nt even back nothing up,good lesson to learn though.I think I put in a western digital.but that or a seagate should work just fine.the original was a 60g drive.

Is anyone having these kind of problems with an USB Hard drive? Cause when I browse through my Megasteno (its something like an USB stick) I have no problems.
When I browse on the internal HD, 1 out of 5 times the maps disappear when the cursor is on them. On the megasteno I dont have this problem. My internal HD is only 40GB and has only 2GB of data anymore.
I use DVD disks to load and browse for samples and programs. Most of the DVD disks have 4GB of data on them, I have no problems when browsing on those DVD´s. Brwosing is a bit slower on large DVD´s but I get no errors or blank folders..
I have a compatible internal hard drive.

The original 4k shipped with flaky IBM hard drives. There's a class action law suit pending against IBM. Mine had crashed last summer and I lost everything. I just got a settlment notice in the mail offering $100.00 copensation.

If you have an original IBM drive, maybe it will crash, maybe it won't.

I have had the white 4000 since the early days when It first came out, and I haven't had any problems with my hard drive.....! Maybe I was lucky, maybe not...... I dunno....!

i had replaced my drive back in oct 2003 thru akai reapir center so the whit 4k's had a batch of bad drives.....
