would jumping from 1000 to 4000 be too big of a jump?

I think you should make the switch, especially if you're thinking about it. The more i use the 4000, the more i feel there shouldn't even be any other models. I'm not down-playing its predecessors at all, i used to own two of them. This is more than i dreamed of when using an MPC and you'll feel it too once you've put one in front of you. Make the jump REN, you'll love it. Nothing is too big for a person's creativity.
