You need to go to the RECORD page and the select INTERNAL, then you will be able to play a CD.

I do as you say, there is no sound! Cdplayer must be connected via the audio cable, so that the "play" button will work? I do exactly what you say, and when i press play, nothing begins!

yes. audio cable or digital cable if you got the option installed.

This is a good post besides the fact that you can rerecord the CD many times over as backup storage.

If you don't have the spdif card and digital connection, you are sampling in analog from your CD burner. CD burners don't have quality converters so you're probably better off rippin a CD in the computer and using aksys to send the file to the MPC

That's a good point, but don't you find that backing up what is in RAM (rathrer than what's on the disk) gives you lots of small backups and too much backup work? I'd rather capture the entire state of the hard drive in one backup, or, failing that, at least capture the entire directories where I have been working.

Having two hard drives sound kind of appealing, but it would be 10x more useful if there were an operation to copy one drive (or whole directories on one drive) to the second drive.

I've considered getting rid of my internal drives altogether lately, so that I can do backups simply by plugging a USB drive into a computer. Unlike feline, I haven't been able to make ak.sys work 100% reliably on my Apples (I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac, both Intel-based), so I have to babysit the silly backups to watch for failures by ak.sys. But at the same time, I need fast load times, even faster than I can get with the standard drive, for pulling up songs quickly in a live show.

Did you get this sorted? Same thing happening for me after installing the SPDIF board.

I realise there's no point using internal analog if you have the internal digital option.

I just put in the SPDIF board and didn't remove the analog option, so this may have caused the problem with the CD drive not playing anymore - the controls don't do anything.

Ok, fixed my own problem - turns out there was some sort of compatibility issue with the CDROM and the el cheapo SATA to IDE adapter that I had put in a while ago.
As soon as I swapped back to the Kingwin ADP-06 SATA to IDE Adapter everything was fine.

This was of course, after I had tried about a dozen combinations of master/slave/csel, analog/digital jumpered etc.

Anyway, the el cheapo SATA to IDE adapter seems to render the CDROM transport controls useless. It's one of the few that offers a Master/Slave/Csel jumper so I had high hopes for it, but no good. I might try the Startech one next.

The Kingwin is only $10 so we're not talking big $ here.

I have access to both the analog and digital inputs from the CDROM, but naturally it's much easier and better to go digital.
