Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

bboy dont worry! 6 q-links (4 q-links and 2 sliders) are fine! you can do a lot with them! if you need more you can always record and reassign them! ... but more is simply more and a q-link extension board basically would just be a luxury extension to a great piece of gear! if it would be available i would definately get it!

iceberg suggestion (moving notes for drum and end esp. kg-programs) is a great one imo!

but still, first i'd really like to see the audition from hd feature and fx return level fixed! after that every new feature is very welcome!

HD audition
love to see "track +" and "track -" in the "main" screen instead of "mute"
& "solo" and vise versa.. i think it could be more ergonomic.
and A Screen Saver fonction like the S5/6K !

well apart from some already stated os wishes I'd like to see:

======

q-link quick edit mode, wheres the q links would respond to each pad like on the 2k, and have a q link preset\user patch bank so one could quickly/automaticly dial up say: ADSR for each knob ect ect

be able to trigger sequence phrases from pads

when jumping to program mode you automatikly jump into the program that was assigned to the track you were on

being able to use the step/bar transport controles to move notes in realtime in gridmode .. might be unrealistik but wt heck

======

and yhea must say
the indvidual looppoint per track is very high on my priority list

kudos, nice thread

>>be able to trigger sequence phrases from pads

Technically, you can already do this with "next sequence', but not instantaneously...What I'd like to see is a feature where you could trigger sequences on different pads, and record them into a larger arrangement, at different quantize rates....The Yamaha RS7000, the kurzweil k2***, and the old mac sequencer vision could do this.I believe logic does this too..Also, I'd really like to see mute groups or "memories" which would contain various mute on off states, that could be switched and recorded during a sequence...
Good suggestions everybody.

Someone mentioned this in another forum as a common misconception about the 4k, but it would be cool if you could burn an audio CD of your songs. Not a necessary feat. for anything but it would be cool.

And a screen saver that says something like....KEEP MAKING PHAT BEATS BEEEYOTCH! That would be cool!

I think auditioning from HD is hands down the most popular.

When did the last OS come out? how long is akai taking to put out new OS's for the 4K?

Damn! I just called myself stupid too!

I got another great feature in mind.

A 3 bands equaliser on the padmixer section,,, yummie yummie that would realy make me a happy user. I dont think it would be to hard to implement either so go for it AKAI

some more ideas rokkas

a feature which i would like to see improved is to be able to adjust the pad sensitivity better! currently one is able to adjust it between 100% and 200%! Well, I never went over 100%! already there it is next to impossible to play pads with a velocity under 20-30! thus imo it would be great to be able to adjust the pad sensitivity also downwards, like for example to 50% to be able to play the pads also with low velocity! would be great for hh, sn, toms, …

individual looppoint per tracklength: this feature is very high (if not the highest) in my priority list! if i don’t mistake, sean (from akai) on another list mentioned that it would be very difficult to implement this feature! So i thought maybe it is possible to loop sequences around their length in song mode – its actually a shame that this isn’t workin and this is the feature i most miss since the day i copped the 4k! As it is now It would just be necessary if one could insert/edit the start point for a seq in song mode! for example: in song mode we currently have: start point, step, sequence, bars and repeat!
Lets say seq 1 is my intro which has 10 bars, seq 2 my bassline with 16 bars, and seq 3 my drums with 4 bars!

so i would like to start with
start bar 1, step 1, seq 1 (intro), 10 bars (repeat 1),

on bar 11 i would like to start with bassline and drums, meaning:
start bar 11, step 2, seq 2 (bassline), bars 16 and repeat 1, and contemporaneously
start bar 11, step 3, seq 3 (drums), bars 4 and repeat 4!

... and on start bar 27 i could go on …. damn, imagine how this feature would ease your programmin!!! i know its not the same as looping tracklenghts but since the bars on the 4k are set for seq and not for tracks this would probably be easiers to develop for akai and bringin more or less the same resual! … and its already possible to play 2 sequences simultaneously in simul play, so somehow that must be possible to develop! what do you think about that?

and regarding the ability to burn audio cds! lou - peace out - and i ain’t the guy from the other forum, but I really don’t see any point in burning an audio cd at the current stage of the 4k! since there is no eq and **** effects in the 4k what would one want to burn please??? most of us because of the absence of eq and decent effects (have to) use the 4k with other gear (mixer, external effects, other ****)! How would one burn an audio cd with decent quality in a scenario like this? and what please? How do i burn my bassline wich is played from my synth? and the reverb over my perc. on my ext. fx? well, … as always any new feature is welcome but this one is really the lowest one in my priority list! therefore i really hope akai is going to implement several other features first and hopefully this will be the last and final one … !

peace rokkas!

I WOULDNT USE THE CDBURNER FOR THAT EITHER BUT i ALSO DONT SEE THE NEED FOR THAT SAMPLE LOOP FEATURE AND THE PAD SENSITIVITY CAN BE DELT WITH IF YOU GO AND EDIT THE LEVEL OUTPUT OF THE SAMPLE. bUT YOU KNOW WHAT???EVERYBODY IN HERE USES THE MPC FOR DIFFERNT REASONS AND SOME PEOPLE DONT HAVE THE MONEY FOR OTHER GEAR SO THEY DO WHAT THEY CAN WITH WHAT THEY HAVE AND MAKE DO. SO CD BURNING MIGHT NOT BE ANYTHIG TO YOU BUT IT COULD OPEN CLOSE DOORS FOR SOME ONE ELSE. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A USELESS WANT.....

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

By Altopiano Thu Apr 15, 2004 5:32 pm
hy aww!

i agree, everybody is usin the 4k differently and everybody has different priority lists for future os updates!

but regarding pad sensitivity: changing the level ain't the same as changin the velocity!

and i wasn't talkin bout loopin samples but loopin sequences!

and i ain't against burnin audio cd's: but first imo it is at least necessary to have some decent eq and fx's in the 4k before burnin an audio cd!

... just my opinion!

peace

amplitude and velocity are 2 seperate things

I kinda agree with you alto, it would be nice, but its not even that much of a deal, I mean if your sitting here now you obviously have access to a computer, aksys the wav file and buy a 20 dollar cd burner and handle that :)
