aksys on windows 7

..also noticed that it seems to be more stable the very first folder/s i try to transfer each new session i begin, then it gradually gets worse and worse.... and it seems to always end up with not transferring the content of a folder if i try to grab one and move it, and then it just copies the folder, so then i have to go into the folder and subfolders in aksys, and select the actual files and drag those over too

I have Windows 7 64bits and my akai mpc4000 driver does not function. When I turn on my mpc4k my windows detects but I cant install the driver...my sistem says that these driver is not valid.

Hey, La Paz Cruda, if you would have taken the time to read through the 3 pages, you would have your answer already. I am not trying to be a dick, but dang man this shiz frustrates the heck outta me!
Anyways, Windows 7 64 Bit Will NOT WORK with aksys. If you want to get it to work either get a copy of Windows 7 32 bit and downgrade or run a Virtual Copy of Windows XP within your Windows 7 OS. You can do this with Windows Virtual PC XP Mode, but if you don't have a certain copy of Windows 7(I believe the home editions don't work) You'll need to upgrade for that. But good news is there's free products out there like VMare and another one I think it is called BlueBox or something similar. I use VMare, or I did because it allows drag and drop between windows 7 and xp which Windows Virtual PC does not. You need a copy of Windows XP to do any of this. Personally, I do not even use Aksys anymore because it is such a pain since it crashes so dang much I find it way easier and stress free to forget about it and just use a USB stick to move back and forth between your mpc and your pc. So much dang time I wasted trying to get aksys working without crashing, drivers are a peice of SH*t. Good luck.

tomc3084 u have all the reason, really I use the usb port and the cd's libraries, I'm not going to complicate life, thanks to all!

People need to realise that old software like Aksys will not be updated anytime soon if ever.

Don't expect it to work flawlessly on OS that were not developed at the time the software was released (circa. 2001).

• USB.
• 32Mb of RAM.
• Windows 98 up to Windows 7 (32 Bit only), Windows 7 (64 Bit can be made to work in 'XP Mode').
• 20Mb of disk space.

oh.. i forgot to add that i managed to get everything over to my external HD in the end... horrible horrible work though.. but much worth it.. i now have access to a big sample library when i plug in the external HD to the mpc, much bigger than before.. the mpc's own HD i only use to store new projects and sounds on, so i save a lot of space for that now

and yeah, i think i'd recommend anyone that has aksys transfer problems to do this.. make abackup of all their sounds on an mpc formatted external HD.. you can easily continue to fill it with samples by hooking it up to the comp again.. much easier to sort things too when you get access directtly to the HD

only thing that i think sucks is that the mpc doesnt seem to be able to see the external HD if i plug it in at the back, if it did, i would keep it plugged in always.... but i have to use the front.. problem with that is that is is extremely easy to break it from someting stupid like puting your elbow down and break the connection and plug because it is places at a pretty stupid place i reckon.. so the shitty thing witht hat si that i will probably wear out the conenction from doing a lot of plug in and unplugging... always a downside.. lol

and yeah, you lose any use of aksys so its just good if you ever only used aksys to trasnfer sounds with..

but i can say that i am happy to get rid of it.. dont think i've ever disliked a program so much as i do aksys.

all those years of wondering why akai cant just get their products to work... can just let it go now.. dont need that shit anymore, lol

It always puzzles me when people want to transfer tons of sounds to their mpc hd, why not just sample those with the mpc, i mean thats one of the main reasons people buy the 4k is because of the high sample engine, so why not put it to good use and sample the sounds you need at that current time?

perfectly fine if it just is a couple of sounds and its a solution if nothing else works then.. but not when there is hundreds or thousands of sounds in a libray... would take you weeks to sort that out, lol

How is it a pain to use the thing for what it was intended? Who needs 1,000s of sounds at one sitting, just sample what you need. Why do you have a sampler if you're not gonna sample? Might as well just use a mpd. I mean I can imagine sample cds but come on. Whatever works for you I guess.

sampling can be a big part of the creativity, and it can be a big part of sounddesign, but when it is not needed, it would be counterproductive to apply it.. if you need fast browsing and preview of sounds in order to find what fits best, then having to sample something only to later on find that it doesnt suit so well and needs to be swapped is extremely counterproductive..
