I agree you shouldnt sit around and wait for things to happen, rather make music with what you got and when an update comes along it comes along. Doesnt mean you cant be pissed off at akai now does it?

adrian: what about intellisample? Or the .prj files?

Same here Kali don`t make the mistake of calling anybody`s comment stupid when those not as experienced as yourself can turn negative, blame the machine, and just give up on it. Words are powerful and too many newbies are easily influenced by the bad than the good. But I`m glad you took the time to read my post. You the man, show others the way too. No man is an island to himself. We are all on this board to help each other I think!!!!!!

Shit I`m pissed at the world sometimes, my boss, my girl, my **** up situation, but I realized the only thing I can change is myself. If I waste my breath trying to change the world i get frustrated, hot, and someone would say the wrong thing at the wrong time and I`ll do a stupid thing and **** them up. Now I`m the fool with nothing!!!! The better way is to use my head, use my imagination, and think of a plan to make shit happen.

And a small Tip + The more one reads the calmer they become which is why the posts are long. :D

Sure it is. Just have a separate function/screen/page in the OS where you have an overview of all your presets and where you can manage them. Only there you could remove presets or remove their read-only attribute.

Right, and the moment you remove/change a preset, you probably break one or more songs that depend on it, without knowing, or while thinking it's okay since no song is using that preset. Of course you forgot that one song you created many months ago.

You could come up with this solution: before removing/updating a preset program in the library, have the OS make a list of all songs that depend on it. Could be done, but it would mean that the whole harddisk would have to be scanned (slow), or that a list of dependent songs have to be kept in the library, per preset. The latter option however is not easy to maintain, because everytime you change a multi, delete a program, or delete a file or folder from disk, the data to be deleted has to be examined before it is deleted, in order to update the list of dependent songs in the library.

The first option (scanning the disk for dependent songs) seems more reliable, but it could take a long time to scan a large disk, and what happens with songs that are backed up on cdrom or on the computer? These are not 'seen' in the scan, and hence a preset program is 'freed' while songs still depend on it.

All in all it's getting complex. And all of this is a non-issue when using the current approach, by making local copies of the needed data.

I agree with you Rob keep it simple, and concentrate on music. All the best to all bang on player!!!!

I get this feeling many of you seem to think you can't combine positive thinking, actually *making* music, adapting and learning, *with* objective & constructive criticism when it comes to the gear itself. It's actually possible.

Without constant improvements, without looking forward, innovations, breaking old habits and sh*t, you wouldn't have your MPC4K today. As a matter of fact, we probably never would have seen any MPCs at all, so don't shrug constructive suggestions off as complaining or with "learn to work with your gear"-comments. You keep writing these long essays and simply isn't saying anything else than 'adapt and learn', which of course is true many times.

But what that has to do in a thread discussing FUTURE FEATURES is beyond me.

don't mix constructif critisim and ilogical thought

don't get me wrong I unstand your point of veiw and I agree: your thoughts might open up paths for better functionallity...

but have you ever seen a hardwhare sampler that can arange a session file over multiple folders on the HD.. damm I haven't

& its not going to happen on the 4k, I'm fine with loading folders they are all well arranged,.. get a USB key if its a problem for u

I'm guessing the only thing thats realy beond you is that your out of tune or to look at it from a more positif prespectif your ahead of your time

I don't admire Akai for doing things just as everybody else have always done. What about you?

Please understand that of course I'd like AkaiPro to innovate the mpc. There's lots of stuff that can/should be added to the OS. I just don't think that the library/preset idea would be high on their list. It involves a LOT of coding and testing, and the result is a system that - for many users - could result in broken songs, because a preset has been changed or removed. And on top of that, it doesn't really add that much functionality. One could even suggest that it removes reliability (in case of a broken song).

I'd rather like them to spend that energy on other stuff, like the streaming of audio to/from disk, or audio tracks, or realtime timestretch, or multiple fx send slots per voice, or better fx algos, or the individual track length feature.

Mind you, this is just my personal opinion!

Why do you need .PRJ files while you have the folder load feature?

Because I don't enjoy the concept of being forced to fill upp the hard drive with stacks of redundant programs. If I have a bass program that I'd like to use in a few beats, I'd like to point to that specific program in my library of programs. Quite simply, I don't like being forced to have everything in one folder for each project.

And sure, if I really want to I can save into the program folder which I use for a specific project. But I want to have that choice myself.

Hi Guys,

Not sure if you are aware of this, but the .PRJ (if it is ever implemented) will NOT
do as you describe above. The .PRJ forced all items (Multi's, Seq, Songs, Programs, Samples) into 1 file. Where currently we have the ability to place them all into 1 folder. The the .PRJ file type will NOT save any disk space. If you take your Folder that you save everything into and stuffit/zipit well you have the equivalent of your .PRJ file. (though Stuffing and Zipping WILL save space)

Here is what Akai stated originally:

Project (.PRJ) files save all sequences, songs, samples, programs and multi's in a single file

*****

So, even if you pushed Akai into implementing the .PRJ file, it will NOT do what you are wanting it to do.

Ok. But the format as described sounds quite nice though. Almost a bit tracker-ish, for anyone familiar with the old concept on tracking on the Amiga & PC.. a shame it never got implemented.

I do agree, that it would be nice. And if they implement it, that I would use it. I also don't think it would take too much coding to do, as they would just need to modify the Save All Memory routine, to save them all to 1 large file. BUt I know that their list of things to do is very big. I know that alone from the requests that I"ve made to them. :)

It would be great for this forum, as you could post 1 file that would give examples to people of ways to implement different things. But until then, I'll just save to a folder and then zip it up.

But to be honest, I would rather have the non-advertised feature of different track lengths
before this feature, but that's from my perspective.

Cheers,

Dave
