well, she finally showed up.

by and large the machine is in good shape.


There is one problem though. The right main output does not work.
this is not a big deal to me, as there are nine other outputs.

I have asked the seller for a partial refund to aid in the cost of the repair.

I will open her up later and take a look around.

This is somewhat easy to repair if you can solder, have a multimeter and the service manual. One of the necessities of having electronic equipment is knowing how to repair it or knowing someone who will do it for you.

Do a search on the forums here for the download link for the service manual if you don't already have it.

it is not a necessity.
there are good service centers to send it to.

well, I fixed the output issue.
It was just a loose ribbon cable.



My z4 showed up today.
The z4 is really clean.
It also has a wicked collection of sounds on it.
Almost every major collection that was in Akai format.


My original plan was to sell the z4, however now I think she stays here.

I am Akai home studio boy.
I just need a DPS24 and an Akai big screen TV(for use as computer monitor)

I bought the z4 to flip.
I am also copping one of the expansion cards out of it.


to be honest. it was worth price alone just for the sample library on the hard drive.

interesting info on the 4k vs the z4

both have 512MB of ram
max sampling time on mpc =33m 48s
max sample time on z4 = 50+ minutes


the z4 does not have the no spin feature for the hard drive, very annoying.

does the z4 have a sequencer?

Since you can use pendrive to transfer files and you can't burn DVD's what's the point of using DVD drive? Is it faster or what? I guess a lot of sample packs comes on DVDs and since I sample nearly everything I think I don't need it that much. All in all it is cheap so I also wouldn't mind of having one :p.
