After owning my 4000 for a few years now I finally started running Balanced Instrument Leads into my mixer Line inputs...all I can say is do it - it will be quiter for sure.
For those of you who don't know there are two types of instrument cable mono or stereo (balanced) jack leads available. the standard mono jack lead is good for your keyboard or guitar into your mixer. But you need balanced leads in the case of the mpc 4000 as it has balanced outputs that seperates Ground from the Negative component of your audio signal. This may not necessarily be true depending on the type of mixer you have - but well worth investigation.
To put it as simply as posible jack plugs are devided into three sections on a balanced jack lead. The purpose of this is to keep the positve (the tip), the negative ( the second up the jack) and Ground or earth link (the third section of the jack in a balanced cable) seperate!!!! This prevents hum and ground loop problems from occuring. Why would you want to send your eqiupments ground down the negative line if you can avoid it.
While this will be common knowledge to many of you , Hopefully this post will help someone to get their gear running quiter!!
