no sound from 4000

Hi 4000 users,

i have just bought this secong hand mpc, i am a new user to the mpc, but i have done all the basic thing's to get it working, so i thought. I'm not receiving any sound, i can get the metronome, i have loaded the sounds, when i hit the pads, i see the level on the in meter go up, but i'm not hearing any sound. I put it into record and hit the pads, the meters go up, then when i playback 'm getting a reading on the out meter, which suggests that something that has been recorded.

So please could someone give me an idea of what i'm not doing, i have turned up the master level etc, i'm just wondering if there is some kind of internal setting that needs to be set, please help.

I'm a new forum member, so please help.

So are you saying that you are NOT getting any sound when in "Sample" mode?


Are you saying that you are NOT getting any sound when in "Program" mode?



Try a different mode then "Main" mode.


As Dabmeister indicated, have you tried reading the Manual? I'll be the first to say that the 4000's (well maybe 2nd after Feline) manual
and Reference Manual need some work. But the one thing the manual does do, is start off with a step by step to get the 4000 producing
a sound... have you followed that?

I could re-write it, but they did a fairly good job on providing each step that is needed to make the 4000 produce a sound...

besides the manual tip:

i had the same problem with my 1st 4k (also 2nd hand).
no sound at all, but everything others works perfect.

and guess what:
the mpc was damaged (cpu board had a problem).
it was nearly 3 month at the repair center and it costs 300,- euros and after all it didnt work, cause it was impossible to repair and to find an other cpu board in europe.

sent it back to the fvcking seller (though he promised me the thing works perfect when he has send it to me) after a long odyssey with email, telephone, letter messages (even contacting an advocate)... i got the money back.

so hopefully u dont have the same prob (or the same mpc )
where are u from?

I would eliminate user error before saying it's damaged...


Does the user understand the concept of a multi, has the user added a progam to the part of a multi, is that part selected
on the main screen...... those types of things... there could definitely be a hardware issue, but 99% of the time when this
comes up, it's a user error where they don't understand what a Multi is or how to use it...
