I just bought a mpc 4000 and I am wondering where I could go to get it checked and fixed. Its crazy I live 5 minutes away from Akai in RI but there is no place to get my 4000 fixed. All feedback will be appreciated.

You could describe the problem you're having. It could be an easy fix.

VST in California is the authorized service center for AKAI, and the most trusted.

Well I'm having a few issues with it. When I load sounds I can't hear them on the pads which is ofcourse a problem and the CD-rom drive won't open for some reason. I just purchased it so I'm probably going to run into a few more problems. I am about to upgrade the OS from 1.45 to 1.71 maybe that make fix a few issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I will be easy on you. You need to update to OS1.71. Opening the CD drive is not as easy as pressing the button on the drive itself. You need to be in the LOAD or Record menu to open the drive.

The "sounds" need to be assigned to pads in order to hear them. I suggest reading the 4K newbie bible at the top of the 4000 section. Also, download the reference manual and addendums. The reference manual and addendums are available from the AKAI website.

Did you cursor all the way up to the top of the "LOAD" screen and toggle the data wheel until it highlighted over the cd drive and press select?
